@CalebHeeringa @eyesonthestorm How are they a failure if most all of these neighborhoods are doing quite well nowadays? The only one I can think that is not, is North Rainer. The city has neglected that area and business owners got murdered, businesses went up in flames, pedestrians killed, etc.

Seattle’s urban villages were a generational mistake. Worsened homelessness, climate pollution and displacement of legacy small businesses by focusing development pressure in a few locations. @eyesonthestorm deftly breaks down how it happened and why it could happen again.
Rich Smith@richsssmith

A tremendous piece of journalism here from @eyesonthestorm. In the piece, he tracks the origins of Seattle's housing crisis to a hinge point in the early '90s, when neighborhood councils restricted housing growth. 1/ thestranger.com/news/2023/10/1…

@meanie @pushtheneedle Resolutions mean nothing. Heck, even the text of bills that get passed doesn't mean much if nobody makes a stink about shortcomings. This is in the Levy to Move Seattle.

@pushtheneedle The publicly subsidized port of Seattle gets right off first refusal against residents again. Another amazing and predictable victory

@seattledot @the_riding_cat Hilarious self own, your efforts are half ass and show no improvements, why should the public care if your org clearly doesn't. This is the speed bump video all over again You all need to find new jobs

Before👉After These are Transit Spot Improvements. We updated signs and markings along 4th from Jefferson to Pine, while adding updated bus zones and no stop curb paint from Jefferson St to Lenora St. Thanks to the Traffic and Signal Shops, as well as Signs & Markings crews!

@Gifted_Program @hannahkrieg The council doesn't turn over all that much though. This year may be a high mark in turnover with only 3 of 7 seeking reelection, but incumbents rarely lose reelection in Seattle.

Seattle City Council is considering a charter amendment that would stagger City Council elections. If the council passes it, voters would have to approve it in the November 2024 election. What do you think? Cool or?

@MultimodalAlex If you use a 4th power law based on the AASHO Road Test (evaluated single axle truck loads of 2,000 - 30,000 lbs) and apply that law outside that range, maybe. It's poor science literacy to make that extrapolation.

@deuceohsixx @FredMeyerStores It's not a separate tax on the consumer though, it's a tax at the distributor level on the product that is only being itemized/shown to consumers on receipts because the stores choose that. I shifted my grocery trips a few miles to outside Seattle.

@MikeLindblom @KromanDavid @seattletimes Do you know why public transportation drivers were specifically exempted from documented incidents of box blocking being counted against their record? Do tickets even get written/forwarded for instructional purposes?

@PoulChapman @SeattleCouncil When doing a walk-through the manager said carpets looking in good condition without being cleaned yet. My lease terms hinted prior tenant likely paid for a cleaning that manager wouldn't do. _Five_ years later deposit dinged for new range drip pans when use had stained them.

@evergreenstone How does your article's statistic handle years there they make different endorsements for primaries and the general election? "In the last ten years, only one candidate has managed to win a general election in Seattle without the endorsement of either"

In Seattle primaries, there are two endorsements that basically make or break your campaign. In the last decade only one candidate has won without either. I stayed up late with one candidate as she waited to see if she got one of them knkx.org/politics/2023-…

@rianwatt its much easier to blame an outside enemy than look internally. no one is opposed to a vacancy tax, they are a tiny percentage, and very easy to avoid.

@kittypurrzog The bitter costco employees in the costco subreddit suggesting praise to members that brought their carts all the way back to the front of the store (even beyond the cart returns in the lot) would love this.

@meanie @seattletimes I think some of the blame lies in the warehouse entrance membership check being "flash a Costco card upon entry" and not scrutinizing the cardholder match there. Having a member gift non-members Costco Cash Cards is the real hack.
