Pedro Sanchez becoming a global leader against Drumpf and Israel because he’s the only progressive leader left in Europe is such great payoff for me personally. I earned this by following all of this elections when I was a teenager for no reason.

@leninology I worry unless a serious political and economic cost is extracted he will just do it again in six months or in Cuba or what have you. Maybe destroying the oil market is enough for that?

None of these things are actually true, but let’s hope claiming it is enough for Trump to declare an incredible victory and walk away.

I think their self image is very important to them and a creeping sense that what theyre doing was not all that noble was a big part of the mental health pandemic that swept thru the armed forces post both Iraq 1 + GWOT. Obviously we will see, and Iran has an interest in claiming to have inflicted large numbers of military casualties (& the US and “Israel” an interest in claiming the opposite), but it does seem likely the number of US military deaths is much, much higher than being reported.

@Tom_Gann Its still dumb tho even on its own logic. It increases the political costs when causalties inevitably come and in the meantime saps his side's morale by robbing it of the illusion of valour. I think its a pundit brain thing where looking the part matters more than winning

I think the levels of sadistic violence towards the Iranian people and particularly Hegseth’s glorying in it suggests a drive for revenge & restoration of a fantasy of omnipotence & that makes more sense if many more US soldiers were killed than they’re acknowledging.
