@JacobsBen Watching some supposed football journalists clutch around trying to justify a massive officiating failure is just embarrassing. It’s not your job to make excuses for officials failures or to try and muddy the waters with nonsense like this.

Bournemouth also had a penalty shout turned away midway through the first half with Harry Maguire judged not to have pushed Evanilson in the back. Will be interesting to see whether PGMOL believe this talking point and the Amad incident involve similar types of contact. However, #MUFC are adamant VAR made a mistake, mostly notably because Adrian Truffert pulls back then pushes Amad.

Manchester United set to make a formal complaint today to PGMOL after the failure to award a second penalty in last night’s draw with Bournemouth. Club will argue Amad was clearly wrestled to ground with no attempt to play the ball. Manchester United are angry at what they perceive to be a clear VAR error. It is also noted similar penalty incidents were treated differently in the same game leading to Harry Maguire being sent off. #MUFC also unhappy with nine minutes of added time being played in the game.

It’s not that complicated. If you initiate a penalty or exaggerate a reaction, you risk losing the penalty and such decisions are very unlikely to be overturned by VAR.

@themagic_tophat This is more a product of the shoddy officiating though. It’s a penalty whether or not Cunha goes down, but you will never, ever see a Prem ref give it if he doesn’t. It’s why Prem players go down easily generally, the refs won’t enforce the rules otherwise.

@MikeKeegan_DM As it should be we’ve kept quiet for too fvcking long time, and PGMOL and the Premier League have been using Manchester United for negative narratives and debates. Enough is enough. The referee should be held accountable and demoted to national leagues

@UtdActive Can’t change results after the match unfortunately. The solutions is simple. Both Atwell and the VAR official need to be fired, no recourse. If they can’t be consistent in a ten minute window during a single match they clearly are not capable of doing the job.

The problem with FA is that they never actually do anything. Months later, they come out and admit mistakes but by then it means nothing. For glaring, game-changing errors, there should be real accountability, including the power to review and potentially change results.

@UTDAlex8 Yup, easily 70% of Premier League matches have ridiculous decisions majorly affecting the game. You do not see this nonsense in Bundesliga. Allowing it to continue season after season and seeing it under the rug is a choice the league makes.

Referee Stuart Attwell and VAR Craig Pawson are at it again. They are the same duo (referee and VAR) who wrongly disallowed Martínez’s equalizer against Burnley FC, a match that eventually ended 2–2 for Manchester United. Once again, they failed to award what looked like a very clear penalty on Amad, and AFC Bournemouth went on to score. If that penalty had been given, it could have been 2–0 to United… a completely different game.

@AlexShawTel You’re correct, but in a sense that makes things worse, the standard of officiating in the Prem is so poor and it’s been that way for years, yet nothing is ever done.

There is absolutely no conspiracy against, or for, any team in the Premier League and to believe so is ludicrous. But what cannot be denied is that we are going through the worst-ever run of referee/Var etc errors. It's never been this bad.

@DaleJohnsonBBC The Amad penalty is nailed on. Bizarre to say it’s in the grey zone. And if that isn’t a penalty, the Maguire one, for a clearly lesser offence, can’t be given. Odd take from you this.

On Amad and Evanilson penalty situations. Both might or might not have been penalties. They are subjective, in the grey zone. So on-field decision stands. VAR's role is not, and ever has been, to create consistency of decision making. Each is judged individually. #BOUMUN

@DaleJohnsonBBC Stop embarrassing yourself mate. Your job is to report on football. The story of this match was officiating failures. If you’re just going to be a propagandist for PGMOL and their terrible officials there’s no point to you.

@ammandev Really frustrating, with the exception of Michael Oliver there’s no reason to suspect bias, it’s just chronic incompetence from officials. It impacts the vast majority of Prem matches. Yet there’s barely a discussion and zero accountability. How is this good for the league?

Refereeing in the Premier League needs to have some consequence because this happens every week to teams up and down the table. Right is right and wrong is wrong. And these ‘experts’ don’t know the difference. 🥴

NBC pundits saying there was more contact for the Amad foul than the Maguire foul, but the Maguire foul was more impactful. How does that matter? Do these people know the rules of the game? Why do we care about impact? If it’s a foul it’s a foul.

@DougieCritchley You’re a journalist. Talking about fundamentally incompetent refereeing that changed the match is focusing on the game. It’s focusing on the most important aspect of this match. Premier League officiating is poor and major errors happen routinely, talking about this is your job.

There’s going to be a lot of talk about refereeing decisions… and there’s plenty of material… But I want to focus on the game. That was so much fun for a neutral. Very little settled possession, very few 10+ pass sequences… Transition, after transition, after transition! Always helps when one of my favourite players to watch in the entire league is on song. Alex Scott, immense again.
