@LargeFloppa @iifymbro @NYGeshikta @johnkonrad Depends on what the long term US strategy is. Post WW2 the US needed a fleet to police the 🌊. USN has been shifting away from that for decades, see increase in carrier groups, as opposed to destroyers/corvettes.

Enlighten me how investing that much money for a marginal increase in effectiveness while severely reducing the total naval vessels is any way good?

Deck guns are underrated. And guess what? They can shoot down drones too. And battleship can cary a lot more deck guns. They are not obsolete.

@johnkonrad Battleships are obsolete because they are large targets and single vehicles. The future is drone swarms, better to have a thousand of something that can eventually get through, rather than having one of something That's the target of everything out there.

The whole economy is a subprime style nightmare, debt to GDP is likely 300% or higher. It’s a house of cards, and it’s starting to lean.

As another user said the upheaval is because of the United States' actions. China had been violating Taiwanese airspace every day for years testing for weaknesses and it all completely stopped on day 2 of the Iranian ass whipping. The actions against Venezuela and then Iran proved that Chinese air defense systems are utterly useless and that the logistics demanded for an invasion on the scale of which Taiwan would demand is completely beyond the capabilities of any nation's military except the United States. The failure of Chinese weapons technologies has lead to further purges as the designer of the J-20, their 5th generation fighter, was recently purged also. And the crux of the issue is this: Xi has had a number of attempts on his life within the last year from disloyal elements within the military as a few of the generals he's recently purged were quite popular. The United States' weakness from the 4 years of Biden was their window to take Taiwan and they missed it with Trump winning again. Xi needed to take Taiwan to have a big win so he can quash further disloyalty and dissent in the Chinese military but the Iran war has shown that any attempt at invasion would not only fail, but drag them into a legitimate war with the United States and pretty much every other East Asian nation teaming up to dogpile on them. This would result in more factions against Xi forming and gaining strength and could cause the CCP to collapse. Since Xi has to address all this, Trump's actions have bought the world another decade at least before China has the capability to try and launch that kind of operation.

IMO President Trump had solid intel that China was going to invade Taiwan this year. Thats why we’re moving so quickly to strategically isolate China.

@WarHorizon Once Erdogan is gone there will be an alliance in the Eastern Med, once IRGC is gone the US will have no reason to be involved in the ME. The US gets almost nothing from Eu/Africa/ME, the future is Latin America/Pacific, it’s simple economics.

@WarHorizon People act like NATO is some sacred institution, it’s gotten too big. And is a defensive partnership only. U will see different alliances going forward. I’ve been saying this for probably 4 years. US will focus on the New World/Pacific, with limited Eu partners.

Good riddance. Won’t be surprised if Turkey is the head of the New NATO.
