A man in Vancouver was "certified insane" on a sidewalk with no evaluation. A psychiatrist saw him in a cafe weeks earlier and signed the paperwork from across the room. No exam. No hearing. No judge. When police came to collect him, he was calm, cooperative, and asked to attend an appointment voluntarily. They took him to a hospital anyway. Days earlier he'd been at a school board meeting warning about authoritarian federal laws. Shortly after, he was certified and picked up off a street. This is the same country that froze trucker convoy donors' bank accounts without court orders. The same country building laws to define what you can say, record everything you do online, and cut your internet if they consider you a threat. It's always framed as safety. The architecture is always control. Self-custodial money exists for exactly this reason.

@MichelleLA1981 On the contrary it doesn't worry me because Bitcoin in self custody can't be confiscated. But i agree its ridiculous and chalk it up with the many other reasons to leave Canada

It's going to be an interesting summer. Danielle Smith is betting everything on Mark Carney. She’s hitched Alberta’s wagon to the former Bank of Canada governor and global climate envoy, banking that he’ll deliver real, tangible benefits for Alberta between now and the UCP AGM in November. The odds are heavily against her. Carney has spent years championing the very net-zero, ESG, and regulatory agenda that has strangled Alberta’s energy sector. His worldview aligns far more with Ottawa’s central planners and Davos elites than with Alberta’s producers and working families. It's also what his base wants. Just think about Guilbeault resigning when the MOU was announced last year. Don’t expect him to suddenly abandon the destructive policies he’s long promoted.... carbon taxes, pipeline obstacles, the war on conventional energy, the gun grab, censorship. Even if HE wanted to make changes, his party won't let him. He's already reversed too many policies previously championed by his party loyalists. Smart play by Smith, or a dangerous bet? She's walking a tight rope, trying to please absolutely everyone, but this time I think she's taken a bad step.

Your liver makes about 1,000mg of cholesterol every day. You eat, on a generous day, about 300mg. If you eat more, the liver makes less. If you eat less, the liver makes more. The body has a target. It defends the target. It does not negotiate. The pharmaceutical industry has built a 40 billion dollar product category around interfering with that target. The drug is a statin. The mechanism is straightforward. It blocks an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase. This is the same enzyme that builds cholesterol. It is also the same enzyme that builds CoQ10, which every mitochondrion in your body requires to produce energy. The drug doesn't know the difference. The drug doesn't care. You take the drug. The cholesterol goes down. So does the CoQ10. So does the testosterone, because testosterone is made from cholesterol. So does the vitamin D, because vitamin D is made from cholesterol. So does the bile, the brain function, the muscle integrity. You get tired. You get foggy. Your legs ache. Your libido disappears. You go back to the doctor. The doctor prescribes something for the fatigue. The doctor prescribes something for the libido. The doctor prescribes something for the muscle pain. The doctor does not prescribe taking you off the original drug. The original drug is working as designed. That is the design.

What a stupid political strategy on Smith's part. What is she thinking? If Smith kicks the can down the road she will not know for sure if the separatists are in the majority of her base or not. Nor can anybody else. Then, a new separatist party will likely form before the next election. What will she do then? Run as a remain party and split the vote with the NDP? If Smith holds the referendum, with only one question, the outcome will be known in one way or another. The separate vote counts can be anywhere, 1%, 10%, 50%, 90%, 99%, or anywhere in between. But the point is, her future strategy should be based on the outcome. And she now wants to shape her future strategy without it?

If Alberta claims it is fighting for what Quebec has, wouldn’t a referendum on independence be the first step?! Asking for 301,260+ Albertans…. Note: Quebec held its second independence referendum more than three decades ago, and Alberta is only now at the stage of asking whether it is even allowed to ask the same question Quebec already asked. Twice! The math is not mathing. 🤨

@AdamSimecka I agree with this point and cant imagine how manipulation of Bitcoin's price through the use of custodians wouldn't be a huge factor in the price suppression at this point. If you hold Bitcoin then hold it in self custody otherwise stay in the fiat system as there is no point.
