Shocking news that Counter Terrorism Police are investigating a credible, serious threat targeted at an Islamic event in Suffolk. Thanks to the quick action taken by police and the organisers, nobody was hurt. My message is clear: I will not tolerate any attacks on our Muslim communities, or any form of anti-Muslim hatred.

Very sad news of the passing of His Highness the Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Than. My condolences go to his family and the people of Qatar. His vision and leadership helped shape modern Qatar. And it paved the way to the strong partnership that the EU and Qatar value so much.

We’re sanctioning Russia at speed and scale. Today’s measures, together with the upcoming 21st sanctions package, will add 250 individuals and entities to the Russia sanctions regime. This is our biggest round of individual designations since Moscow’s 2022 full-scale invasion, and includes also the EU’s largest-ever cyber sanctions package. The financial backbone of Russia’s war machine is the main target. Every measure weakens Moscow’s ability to wage war. My doorstep ahead of today’s Foreign Affairs Council ↓

Her response disappointed many Greeks, especially members of the Greek diaspora and those who believe the controversy is not about censorship, but about the representation of Greece’s historical and cultural heritage in a major international production. Critics argue that by framing the issue as one of artistic freedom versus state censorship, the minister avoided engaging with the broader discussion over historical authenticity, identity politics, and the film’s reinterpretation of one of the foundational works of Greek civilization. Many observers also point out what they see as a striking contrast. While journalists, scholars, and audiences across the Western world have publicly defended the importance of respecting the cultural roots of Homer’s epic, Greece’s own Ministry of Culture has chosen to remain largely detached from the global conversation. According to these critics, the expectation is not for the government to censor Christopher Nolan, but for Greece’s official cultural institutions to articulate and defend the significance of the country’s literary and historical heritage, especially when the production has also benefited from Greek public support.

Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni just rejected any “censorship” of Nolan’s Odyssey. The same government that gave him millions in Greek taxpayer money and let him film here is now protecting the movie like it’s some sacred piece of art. They sold out our own history, let Nolan cast zero Greeks and completely butcher the story, and now Mendoni is out here acting like the real problem is people criticizing it. This is the Greek government bending over backwards to defend a Hollywood director who clearly doesn’t give a fuck about our culture. Absolute spineless clowns.

@FreshSummerWind Well you would for 1 need to be an adult and realize Martin Luther King was black, this is simply a movie that no way shape or form influences the real person...as the odyssey is a movie that no way shape or form changes Homer's version. Stupid fuck

Turkey just blocked 1,900 tourists from docking because the cruise was for LGBTQ+ travelers. Now, Egypt has done the same.  It's stories like these that remind us it’s more important than ever that the United States upholds freedom and equality for every visitor to our great nation. As a world leader in equality, we must also support our democratic allies and call out hate from other nations around the world when it arises.  washingtonpost.com/travel/2026/07…

Athens isn't a regular stop for Hollywood's biggest global red carpet premieres in the way that London, Los Angeles, New York, Cannes or Venice are. That said, it has still hosted a number of significant premieres and gala screenings over the years. For a film as ambitious as The Odyssey, one of the defining works of Greek culture and literature, you'd think Athens would be an obvious choice for at least one major premiere event. Instead, it appears they'll be taking it everywhere but the country whose history and culture gave birth to the story. Perhaps that's because they know the film's creative decisions would face far greater backlash in Greece than almost anywhere else. If they were confident those decisions would be embraced by Greek audiences, hosting a major premiere in Athens would seem like the obvious thing to do.
