@DrSteveTaylor I’ve just had a referral from a GP rejected by a “specialist” - no name to look up if that actually means a doctor even and no recourse. And my symptoms have got worse since the referral was made.

Replacing many GP referrals with advice & guidance is a naked Govt attempt to fiddle waiting-list figures, but brings risks to patient safety & overrides GP decision-making & judgement. It's fine if a GP seeks advice & guidance; it's not fine to undermine the GP gatekeeper role.
Dr Luke Evans MP@drlukeevans

There are serious concerns among clinicians and patients over the changes to how GPs refer to a hospital specialist. A 🧵 1/15

@theipaper Saddling the even more of the next generation of medical students with crippling debt is completely pointless if he’s not going to provide them jobs at the end of their training. Ludicrous workforce planning that will only worsen the resident doctor employment crisis. Farcical.

Exactly this👇🏽

@theipaper @wesstreeting There seems little point in studying for your MBBS any more when UK doctors are increasingly being replaced and successive governments (including the current one) hate doctors. Seems best to get your qualification and then move to a country where you are valued🤷‍♂️

@LBC @wesstreeting He's cut 1000 consultant and GP training posts whilst the roll out of ACPs and PAs continues. His choice is pretty clear. When will he give patients a choice on who will see them, a doctor or a doctor substitute?

My Uncle was a top Endocrinologist. Mr David Sykes. He would be turning in his grave at this absolute tut being pushed by this Labour Government. PAs, GPs having referrals pulled, F1/F2s treated like dirt by Wes and Co. Corridor care etc. Now this?!
Anon Anaesthetist@anaesthetic_spr

The average Endocrinology consultant goes through: ➖Rigorous medical school exams ➖MRCP Part 1 (a 6-hour exam, 200 questions) ➖MRCP Part 2 (a 6-hour exam, 200 questions) ➖PACES (a high-intensity clinical exam) ➖Specialty Certificate Examination (a 3-hour exam, 100 questions) Nurse consultants: Desirable Master’s degree

The biggest barrier this bunch of Med students will have is the current government screwing them over for a job after F2. They just don't know it yet! @TheBMA

We're creating new opportunities so young people from disadvantaged backgrounds can pursue their dreams of a career in the NHS. @WesStreeting met medical students @uclh to find out more about the barriers they've overcome. Read more: gov.uk/government/new…

The Government was asked a simple question by @drcarolinej - could the Government show evidence for mandating a Single Point of Access for GP referrals to be reviewed. The answer: "We trust GPs" 🤔 So why is Labour bringing in a system that literally overrides GP judgement?

Wes Streeting and Keir Starmer have made their choice. They chose to remove 1,000 extra GP and Consultant training jobs. They chose to take 1,000 extra NHS specialists out of the pipeline, who could help cut waiting lists faster. That is this Labour Government’s choice.
LBC@LBC

'Honestly guys, I have no choice now.' @wesstreeting's frank response to those who argue that he's being 'too hardline' on striking doctors.

Dr Evans is absolutely right: the question is whether when a GP of years of medical training and experience seeks specialist advice will the person providing that advice (or rejecting the referral) be an actual specialist? Or even a doctor? Labour doesn’t know or care
Dr Luke Evans MP@drlukeevans

Your GP says you should see a hospital specialist for your condition Labour’s new Single Point of Access now decides whether that GP referral goes through They have a target to "redirect" 25% of referrals I wanted to know: who is making that decision? I asked the Minister 👇

I spoke to John Pienaar on @timesradio yesterday afternoon about his relaunched Women’s health strategy, my heart attack and whether NHS outcomes for women are impacted by medical misogyny. As always my focus was on the one demographic, politicians don’t seem interested in, older women. I’m still hopeful @wesstreeting a young man in an older male dominated cabinet (with or without statins) will meet with me to highlight Cadiac symptoms for women. Heart attacks aren’t just for men, female health initiatives aren’t just for young women…. #hearttoheart
