Wow, GOOD news! I’ve honestly had enough of indoor smoking. As a mother who’s constantly out and about with my kid, it’s more than just a nuisance—it’s a health concern. While new regulations are a start, I think we still have a long way to go before the culture actually shifts and people fully adapt.

I made a public complaint on Chinese Social Media (小红书) about how i hate how bad smoking is in public places in Xinjiang, literally every cafe or restaurant people smoke, yet in big cities they already have bans. My post went really viral and the government have just made a new law banning smoking in indoor public places from May 1!! I received lots of messages from women today thanking me for it saying i was the one to change it🤣🤣

China seeks to make its voice heard, and the world wants to understand China better. Yet a communication gap remains. Why? Often, meaningful dialogue is hindered by two challenges: a lack of language—the right words to explain complex realities, and a lack of context—the deeper insight needed for those words to truly resonate.

Huge thanks to Jerry for the platform and the insightful back-and-forth. We discussed topics that are commonplace in China but often polarized or mythologized in the West—such as what delegates actually do during the Two Sessions, or whether Chinese journalists truly have a mandate for public oversight. These systemic issues are undeniably difficult to unpack, but when viewed through the lens of a reporter’s daily work and firsthand observations, they become far less abstract.

My wife had our baby. We chose c-section & the leading doctor at the best hospital in the city. We also chose a plastic surgeon to stitch my wife’s wound. We stayed in a VIP room (single occupancy) and had a nanny 24/7 during our 4-day stay. All meds/meal/stay included US$1600

There is a fundamental contradiction in our world today: "geopolitics and geo-economics are pulling in opposite directions." While business has moved toward win-win dynamics, geopolitical thinking remains trapped in a zero-sum, caveman mentality — "either you're No.1, or I am No.1." But companies thrive on competition and cooperation, growing side by side. It's time to leave the zero-sum game behind.
Beijing Review@BeijingReview

“The instincts that we are deploying in the field of geopolitics, especially the zero-sum game, come from the caveman period. We can liberate ourselves from them,” said Kishore Mahbubani @mahbubani_k , Founding Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2026.

Just touched down in Urumqi, Xinjiang. Here's a little something for anyone thinking about visiting Xinjiang. On the flight, I met a Polish family of three — seems they’re on a round‑the‑world trip. Flew in from Dubai, connecting here before heading back to Poland. Thanks to China’s visa‑free policy, they’ve got a full day to explore Urumqi before their next flight. A short stop, but still a taste of somewhere new. Hope they have a wonderful journey here!

Many in the U.S. view China as a top-down planned economy, overlooking the reality of fierce market competition—a competition driven by millions striving for jobs and a better future, as the former WTO Chief Economist told Beijing Review on Mar 24 at the Boao Forum for Asia in Hainan. "Anyway, I think Americans misunderstand the nature of both the Chinese economy and the Chinese people."

When an elderly man fell in the street in Hefei, east China's Anhui Province, a young woman on her scooter immediately stopped to help. Other passersby and traffic police quickly joined in. The man was taken to hospital and has since been discharged in good health. #CoolChina

"For developing nations, industrialization is not merely an option—it's the essential engine for economic catch-up. Crucially, they possess a distinct advantage: the ability to learn from the environmental and social costs borne by earlier industrializers and to choose a smarter path. Their development, therefore, must be founded on sustainable principles from the outset, moving beyond the outdated, resource-intensive model of the past. It’s not just about growth; it’s about building a resilient future," said Sui Jigang, a researcher at the Institutes of Science and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences, at the forum. Sui emphasized that China is embodying this approach. By integrating innovation and green development into its core national strategy—the New Development Philosophy—China has translated theory into tangible progress. This provides not just a Chinese model, but a practical example for any nation seeking to leverage technology and innovation for sustainable growth. Furthermore, Sui highlighted that this commitment extends globally through initiatives like the #GreenSilkRoad. The focus is on actionable collaboration—establishing joint laboratories, conducting practical technical training, and fostering substantive knowledge-sharing. The goal is to provide concrete support and build enduring local capacity for managing green technologies in partner countries.
