In 1989, Barry Goldwater was asked if he regretted his vote against the Civil Rights Act. He didn't, and he told William F. Buckley exactly why.

On this day in 1873, a Catholic priest arrived at a leper colony in Molokai, Hawaii. He built their homes, dug their graves, and wrote: “I make myself a leper with the lepers to gain all to Jesus Christ.” Eventually, he died serving the lepers he loved. Today is the feast day of Saint Damien of Molokai. Pray for us!

"I say with Cardinal Bellarmine whether the Pope be infallible or not in any pronouncement, anyhow he is to be obeyed. No good can come from disobedience. His facts and his warnings may be all wrong; his deliberations may have been biassed. He may have been misled. Imperiousness and craft, tyranny and cruelty, may be patent in the conduct of his advisers and instruments. But when he speaks formally and authoritatively he speaks as our Lord would have him speak, and all those imperfections and sins of individuals are overruled for that result which our Lord intends (just as the action of the wicked and of enemies to the Church are overruled) and therefore the Pope’s word stands, and a blessing goes with obedience to it, and no blessing with disobedience." - Saint John Henry Newman, (The life of John Henry cardinal Newman P.193)

Just so you know: this is exactly what I said in my substack post. I haven’t changed my position one bit.

Andrew Klavan @andrewklavan today on the Matt Fradd Mormon controversy (shortened): "I love Matt Fradd. He's not like these hateful people just slinging mud in the name of God. But I have to say I don't agree that he should be doing this. Mormons aren't blowing people up, leave them alone. When you take away something that you disagree with in somebody else's faith, you might think you're doing something good, but you might actually be taking the step away from them that's going to lead them to something closer to the truth."

Today is another one of those days that proves the 1962 Missal goes AGAINST Catholic customs. The Feast of the Apparition of St. Michael Just these last few weeks we had > The Solemnity of St. Joseph > The Octave Day of St. Joseph > The Feast of Sts. Philip & James > The Feast of the Finding of the Holy Cross (on Sunday) > The Feast of St. John Before the Latin Gate And, of course, today's Feast of St. Michael. Is this insignificant?

"The changes made by Pope Paul VI were not doctrinal changes, they merely changed from Latin to the vernacular." This is such a filthy lie, such a dishonest statement, that it impugns the very stature of Sheen, if true. He knew that was absolutely untrue, so, if he wrote it, it’s disgraceful. One may have disagreements with the SSPX, but nothing is gained by lying - and it certainly doesn’t achieve any positive aims, nor does it convince a SSPX follower to stop following it.

Letter by Archbishop Fulton Sheen warning a parishioner against joining the SSPX, or leaving the SSPX, way before the excommunication. Very telling.

What a surprise. @BibleInContext1 resorts to quoting a Catholic priest who wanted to get married. So he GOT married WHILE STILL a Catholic priest & THEN left the Catholic priesthood. 🤣 Lucien Vinet married Rollande Binette on September 6, 1941. He left the priesthood in 1942.

“It is a mistake to maintain that woman’s rights are the same as man’s. Women in war or Parliament are outside their proper sphere & their position there would be the desperation & ruin of society. Woman, created as man’s companion, must so remain...always under his power” THREAD

“Revenge of the Sith” has aged well because it uniquely mixed the feel of cheap “pulp” sci-fi magazines with timeless Greek tragedy. Anakin’s fall is almost identical to what Aristotle describes in “Poetics”: A great figure brought low by a tragic, fatal flaw.
