@nivraxx The man with the broken leg is depicted in a wheelchair, so he can take a wheelchair space. I would eliminate the mother with a sleeping baby. It's hard to decide between the old man (being a veteran is irrelevant) and the pregnant woman. It depends how fit the old man is.

@Jesii_ca_M I don't agree. There are many cuisines that I prefer to Indian. I think that the UK should be labelled, "Food better than foreigners' expectations," and the US should be labelled, "Politicians good at getting away with appalling levels of corruption." Argentina label gets a tick.

@01Waller @messedupfoods I agree, how many? If that's for a family of four, that's £13.50 each, which is expensive but not massively so if the chippy is in a touristy area. If it was for one, I'd expect it to have been served in a silver service restaurant with all the associated accoutrements.

Waitrose are playing a dangerous game not putting this £15 blonde chocolate almond croissant in a security tag. At that price, it’s less bakery item and more high value target. This isn’t a display shelf, it’s a crime scene waiting to happen.

@WorkElizab I wear surgical stockings to control varicose veins. The answer is no, they are not uncomfortable. In fact, they keep my legs warm during cold weather but oddly don't make them get too hot in hot weather.

@Watchman_motto I agree with you. In climates where you need central heating, air conditioning or both, the extra volume of space can cost a lot. Unless you have solar panels and an air source heat pump, your electricity bill will bring tears to your eyes.

I have a love-hate with tall ceilings. On the one hand, the taller it goes, the more grand the space feels. On the other, you’re spending money just to have space above your head. In this case, a large vaulted ceiling. That means the roof has to be insulated. So now your roof costs more too. We have one large room in our house with 10’ ceilings, the rest are <9’ and I like having both.

@neilstitfer @JordanEVGuy Yes, fossil fuel power stations pollute but they pollute away from population centres and one coal, oil or gas burning power station does pollute less than a million ICE cars for a number of reasons. Also, with more and more power from renewables, ~50% in the UK, EVs pollute less

EVs are actually better for the environment. It might upset you, trigger you or even make you cry, but that won’t make it go away. Let’s break it down properly. Electric cars do have higher emissions during manufacturing, mainly because of the battery. But that’s only part of the story, despite the fragile men that try and focus only on this area. Once EVs are on the road, they’re dramatically cleaner, and they stay cleaner for the rest of their life. Meanwhile, the longer fossil cars are on the road, they’re polluting they get overall, and they continue adding to it. According to the International Council on Clean Transportation, electric cars in Europe produce around 73% less CO₂ over their lifetime compared to petrol cars. That’s nearly four times less pollution. Even in worst-case scenarios, like a battery made in a high-emissions country like China, and driven on a dirtier grid, EVs still come out ahead, with at least 37% lower emissions than petrol cars. And in best-case scenarios they are up to 83% lower emissions. UK-specific data tells the same story. A typical petrol car over its lifetime produces around 70–80 tonnes of CO₂, while an equivalent EV produces around 20–25 tonnes. That’s a reduction of roughly 70–75%. That initial “carbon debt”, that the anti EV looks are so obsessed with, from manufacturing, is paid back quickly. In the UK, an EV typically becomes cleaner than a petrol car within 1 year of driving. After that, every mile is a bigger environmental win. Plus, EVs get cleaner every year automatically as the grid adds more renewables. The reality is that EVs aren’t perfect. No technology can be. But the idea they’re not better for the environment is completely detached from reality. They are already significantly cleaner today, and they’re getting cleaner every single year. Meanwhile, combustion engines are as dirty as they’re ever going to be. They are at peak efficiency, require significant servicing and maintenance just to stay on the road, and despite that, they get dirtier every year. It’s not even close, yet the lie that EVs are worse for the environment still gets spread.

@dailybritainonx The Canadian Senate is appointed. An appointed second chamber is not as rare as you might think. I think that the House of Lords does a good job as it is but there could be some reforms. Maybe peers should be appointed for a 15-year term with the possibility of being reappointed.

America has a Senate. Australia has a Senate. Canada has a Senate. Most democracies have two chambers - one elected, one providing scrutiny. Why does Britain still have 800 unelected lords? Should we finally build a democratic second chamber?

@EvaLovesDesign This is interesting. I think it's an American house trying to be English and doing it much better than most. I think it's American because it looks c.1910 in style but English/British houses then would most likely have had casement windows, rather than the sash windows seen here.

@dailybritainonx No. As long as there is demand for rental properties, the market should be free. You might as well propose a cap on wealth and that would lead to an economic disaster. What is needed is more housing for the rental market, the sales market and for social housing.

Some landlords own dozens - or even hundreds - of properties, making huge profits while millions of young people can't afford to buy. Should there be a legal cap on how many homes any one person can own?

@BenGrahamUK What has happened is the refusal of police forces to investigate minor crimes. Together with the difficulty faced by shops to protect their stock, this has led to petty criminals reckoning that they can get away with it. What is needed is a zero tolerance crackdown.

@AutoPap All cars should have a fire extinguisher, stored somewhere within easy reach of both the driver and front seat passenger. Any car can catch fire but also you might see a fire that could be put out if extinguished now but might be a major job by the time the fire brigade arrives.
