Let me be clear: The dissimilarities that divide us are dwarfed by the commonalities that unite us. Keep this simple idea in mind as we march towards a brighter political future, one where our incongruities are ensmallened by our similitude.

OBSESSION, though no more than an exercise in style, with the camera swirling around nothingness, was great on-the-job training for CARRIE. (1976)

*knocks politely* I know Barker and other young horror lights name drop Peele and Aster as their modern influences, but while she hasn’t worked as much - where is Jennifer Kent and the lead performance of Essie Davis that she directed? Babadook is one of the modern greats, too.
Variety@Variety

COLUMN: Inde Navarrette’s performance in #Obsession should be remembered (and, more importantly, actually considered) come award season. Her work is singularly brave and brilliant, standing alongside rich horror performances in recent years like Lupita Nyong’o in “Us” and Toni Collette in “Hereditary.” Voters, don’t make the same mistake you did by ignoring those lauded women. @AdriCaporusso Thats... thats not how they decide who the leads of movies are... Inde and Matthew are the leads as Nikki and Bear with Cooper and Megan the supporting actors as Ian and Sarah. She drives the scenes, including some of them with Bear in it.

I’m unclear on why we are just erasing PARANORMAL ACTIVITY from the books? This is the second framing I’ve seen of like budget to box office numbers that does this, as if PA didn’t pass $100mil AND set off a $400mil franchise. This is not a deep cut movie guys!
DiscussingFilm@DiscussingFilm

‘OBSESSION’ may become one of the only films in history to earn $100M+ on a budget of less than $1M. The film is expected to earn more this weekend than it did in its opening weekend, a rare feat.

I work at a polling station in Dublin and I'm giving anyone who looks like a far right voter (poor hygiene, baseball cap, mid 40s, lonely etc) a pencil so I can erase their votes later

@Langley84M @pyjamas_black Yes and they’d probably be busy also dying their hair pink and talking about being triggered. And also they might miss the vote because they got distracted doing a land acknowledgement. The time spent kissing their framed photo of AOC would also leave less time for showering

@HunterDuesing @MovieDweller Me too, all this talk of OBSESSION possibly making 100 million at the box office and I’m like, “for a re-released De Palma joint from 1976!?” I hear awards buzz for the lead actress, and I’m like “you mean Geneviève Bujold!? What is going on!?”

You can tell so many of these new young filmmakers haven’t seen anything good. All their influences come post canon collapse. Did YouTube guy know he was swiping a de Palma title? Doubt it. Did he watch the fury for inspiration? LOL He’s thinking MIDsommar is peak.

@saycamore That’s incredible they can just go into more detail on 1985-1987. Then maybe Part 3 could be 1987-1992. Part 4 could loop back around and cover anything that was missed in the first three movies, but still staying pre-1993

I've been wanting to say this for a long time. Release years should be the year your movie gets released to the public, not the year you showed a handful of people your unreleased film at a festival
I Love To Talk Film@ILoveToTalkFilm

Hey @letterboxd, OBSESSION is a 2026 movie. Nobody cares about festival release dates!

@Freyy_is Netflix needs to drop any alternative viewpoints to the ‘Michael’ film narrative or feel the wrath of MJ fans. All dissent to the official narrative must be silenced 👊

i don’t understand how netflix thought it was a good idea to upset michael jackson fans after a biopic that pulled in over 700 million globally. at some point, you have to read the room and respect what actually drives your numbers

@DonaldClarke63 Sounds interesting, I thought it was odd how he played his character as gay in NUREMBERG when he was flirting with Göring, but that approach must be much more effective here

Talk about your classic late(ish) Cannes surprise. Ira Sach’s THE MAN I LOVE — a tale of the AIDS years — is sensational. If Rami Malek were to win best actor (and he should) it could undo the damage to his reputation done by that Oscar win.
