@spenley My theory is that an advertiser can see your IP address (particularly if you have denied permission for sharing location in privacy settings) and looks it up and tracks to where your ISP is based, in my case Sheffield which often comes up (not that it’s usually where you live!).

Why does YouTube keep showing me Uber ads that specifically name Pendle, which I live nowhere near? Anyone else get similar?

@Stephen_Neal I was there too - fascinating! Also telling that it was challenging for the students to recreate a televisor with all the tech now available!

Fascinating joint talk by the IET and the RTS on 100 years of TV. John Logie Baird’s grandson gave a fascinating talk, amongst others.

Crikey. Just realised that this month marks the 30th anniversary of me getting my first job directing live TV… (Look East BBC Regional News in Norwich - the best possible place I could have started!)

@Astronomer_Mark Penetrating oil (and spray) is better than WD40 as it’s a lighter liquid to flow more easily into threads etc - you may need to leave it a while. Readily available Screwfix, DIY stores etc.

Dear Twitter. Trying to replace brake discs. Two grumpy stubborn nuts won’t budge. Using an impact wrench (battery powered) but not shifting! Have caked it in DW40 - any other ideas pls?

That’s it for this year. Time for a few days off with far too much food and drink - if things go according to plan 😀 Have a great Christmas everyone and I’ll leave you with an AI generated amateur radio Christmas scene 🎅🏻

@Bumfrey Have you thought of contacting former BBC Sophie and Anna who have a great podcast setup in Magdalene street called Soundyard? I’d help you with it if you would like to add video to your podcast/stream. DM me if I can help.

People who design PCBs... Is there anything interesting you can do with the ones that inevitably don't work or are otherwise surplus to requirements? I have a small stack building up that seems very wasteful to just chuck away!

Doing some general clear-up in the workshop and came across an HDMI to Micro-USB cable... I have no idea what or where it came from, let alone what purpose it serves 🤔😅

Our beloved Maxwell has gone to sleep forever. He was nearly 16. We were all there and he felt our touch and love as he slipped away. Right now as a family we feel broken but we were so lucky to have found him in this universe. He was a gentle, sweet and special soul and he will be with us forever. He changed all our lives. He gave us so much love. He loved me more than I could possibly deserve. Rest well my beautiful beautiful boy. x

@2E0HXE If I could only have a basic soldering iron it would be 25 watts, something like an Antex XS25 - worth a bit extra for the Silicone cable. Reasonable heat means less time heating components=less likely to damage. They also make good soldering stations if you can run to that.

OK Folks.. Not being a fan of soldering myself.. what wattage soldering iron would you recommend for kit building? I know a larger one is better for connectors etc but whats best for through hole components?

@nickwallis Well done on all your work on this Nick. I think your continuous push and diligence along with Alan Bates is why at last it looks like justice will be properly served.

@MartinSLewis Bang on Martin - Not forgetting journalist Nick Wallis who has doggedly reported on this to keep it in the public eye probably longer than anyone else.

ITV drama has done an amazing job of making the Post Office scandal resonate - sometimes only the empathy that a drama can break makes a campaign work. Yet I've read a few denigrating journalists for not covering it. That's unfair, Private Eye has been all over this for years, as has Computer Weekly, there's been Panorama's, Radio 4 series and its been covered huge amount of time in many newspapers and news programmes. It took a different type of cut through to make it resonate to this level, but that doesn't mean some of my fellow journalists didn't try.
