🇨🇳China is now 34% bigger than the US and 🇷🇺Russia leapfrogged Japan and Germany: this is the new economic reality. 🇮🇳 India is bigger than Japan + Germany combined. This means the G lobal South (China + India + Russia + Brazil + Indonesia) already controls almost half of world PPP GDP — and they’re accelerating.

In 1943, a German army sergeant named Alfred Haase arrived in the small Norwegian town of Ballangen, near Narvik, as part of the occupying force that had controlled Norway since 1940. He was 23 years old, already married, and a long way from home. He met a young Norwegian woman named Synni Lyngstad and courted her with a bag of potatoes, a rare and valuable thing in wartime Norway. She gave him whale meat in return. A relationship followed. By the time the war ended in May 1945 and German forces were evacuated from Norway, Synni was pregnant. Haase left before his daughter was born. On November 15, 1945, Synni gave birth to a girl she named Anni-Frid. The family believed that Haase's ship had been sunk and that he was dead. The baby's arrival came at one of the worst possible moments to be born, the child of a German soldier in Norway. The occupation had lasted five years, and the bitterness that followed liberation was fierce and immediate. Women who had slept with German soldiers were publicly humiliated, had their heads shaved in the streets, and were branded as traitors. Their children, known as tyskerbarnas, or German children, were treated as living reminders of collaboration and shame. Around 10,000 to 12,000 such children had been born in Norway during the occupation. Many spent decades facing discrimination, exclusion, and abuse. Some were institutionalized. Some were forcibly sterilized. Synni, her mother Arntine, and baby Anni-Frid fled to Sweden in early 1947, where attitudes toward these children were less brutal. They settled eventually in the small town of Torshälla, outside Eskilstuna. Months after arriving, Synni died of kidney failure. She was 21 years old. Anni-Frid was not yet two. Her grandmother raised her alone, working as a seamstress to keep them both. She sang traditional Norwegian songs to the little girl and encouraged her to perform. Anni-Frid grew up quiet and a little lonely, with summer visits to relatives in Norway keeping her connected to where she came from. By 13, she was singing professionally with a dance band. By her early twenties, she was building a career as a solo artist in Sweden. In 196,9 she met a musician named Benny Andersson. A few years later, the four of them had a name. In 1977, at the height of ABBA's global fame, a German teen magazine called Bravo published a biography of Lyngstad that included her parents' names. Her half-brother Peter Haase read it, recognized the details, and went to his father. Alfred Haase, it turned out, had not drowned. He had made it home, remarried, become a pastry baker in Bavaria, and lived a quiet life for thirty years while his daughter became one of the most recognized voices on earth without knowing he existed. A few months after the magazine ran the story, Anni-Frid met her father for the first time in Stockholm. She was 32. He was 58. The meeting was cordial, but she was honest about its limits. It would have been different, she said, if she had been a child. She could not connect with him or love him the way she would have if he had been there when she was growing up. Alfred Haase died in February 2009 at the age of 89. In 2018, Norway's Prime Minister formally apologized to the women and children who had been persecuted after the war for their connections to the German occupation. Anni-Frid Lyngstad was one of the lucky ones. She got out before she could walk, landed in a country where she could survive, and had a grandmother who sang to her. Thousands of others were not so fortunate and never made it out of Norway at all. © People of the Past #archaeohistories

🇨🇦 Every Canadian should read this twice: 🇨🇦 Canada ranks .. 🥇 1st in uranium 🥇 1st in potash 🥈 2nd in nickel 🥉 3rd in oil 🏅 5th in gold 💧 1st in freshwater Countries start wars for LESS than this. And somehow we are told we’re too poor to cut taxes, too broke to build homes, too weak to compete, too small to matter. It took historic levels of incompetence and ideological sabotage to bury a country this blessed. Imagine where Canada would be if we were actually allowed to win. However we are poorer than Alabama, the poorest US state ! 🇺🇸🚩 #cdnpoli #Canada #Future #Resources #Economy #Energy #Mining #Prosperity #LIB2026

Wow, that's extremely rare for a U.S. treaty ally. South Korea's president, addressing Israel: "It’s disappointing that you don’t even once reflect on the criticisms from people around the world who are suffering and struggling due to your relentless anti-human rights and anti-international law actions." He said this after posting this yesterday (x.com/Jaemyung_Lee/s…), a video of IDF soldiers throwing a young Palestinian off a rooftop and commenting that "there is no difference between this and the Japanese wartime sexual slavery issue we raise, the massacre of Jews, or wartime killings." Israel's Foreign Ministry responded that his post was "unacceptable" but President Lee obviously - and courageously - chose to double down 👇 Also probably says a lot about where U.S.-South Korea relations are at right now.
