@RonFilipkowski And this is why the little lies or embellishments that people at the start thought were amusing or were factored in with Trump always mattered because this is where it leads.

Never in my life have I believed Iran state media over our own government. Until now. That’s not being “unpatriotic,” it’s having a brain that functions.

That Trump started the attacks on Iran without even having the semblance of a plan to keep the Strait of Hormuz open is both a mystery and a scandal — from which he might not recover politically. Republican grandees in swing seats/states now beginning to panic, flooding White House with calls to ‘do something’ as gas [petrol] prices soar.

@AdrianBethune But I only have one at high school and talking from friends experience. My asd daughter starts next year and hates PE/sport so this wouldn’t help her issues at all. Maybe just a bit more time for them to have a break from the pressures of trad subjects would work

@AdrianBethune We have a good secondary which balances it all very well. Three lessons a day plus form time + lots of clubs - compared to primary where they’ve done five different things before first break and issues are ignored due to lack of time which then explode in year seven

The fall in children's wellbeing in the UK is *mostly* a secondary school problem (massive drop in Y7!). We could improve things massively by increasing the amount of physical activity in secondary (more PE, increased playtime, more sports, daily mile, etc). Discuss 🤔

@GLS2009 @_Dan_Castell @CroftyF1 I'm in the UK and have paid £59.99 for the full year since 2020 or 2021. I can't remember how I set it up though as it isn't available in the UK and I had to do some weird shit back then. I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out

Absolutely hated hearing @CroftyF1 constantly talking about sweets and chocolate. He’s doing farrrrrrrr to many catchphrases and weird comparisons rather than just using straight facts to inform the audience of what is going on. It’s F1 ffs not a kids tv show

@FrasierShoes @naomicfisher @KShabby16334956 Exactly and I’m pretty sure I’ve paid money for Naomi’s talks that have included much about masking - so it’s a shock to now find she doesn’t believe it exists

A recent review of 389 studies concluded that masking or camouflaging has not been well conceptualised, that the evidence base is largely based on late-diagnosed females without learning disabilities who are not representative of the full autism spectrum, and that it has not been shown to be specific to autism. Sheer quantity of studies does not show scientific validity. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/13…

@AdamHighcliffe I mean it shows how out of touch she is thinking there’s support out there for anyone - without a fight. Her whole point has no research or evidence to back it up - just handed something else to hang women with.

Frith's bugbear is the "expansion" of the autistic spectrum since her own heyday. She claims: "The increase in later-diagnosed groups overshadows the needs of those with intellectual disabilities, who require much more intensive support." Wait. *How* does this overshadow? 2/

Uta Frith has followed up her TES interview with one in the Sunday Times. Given the political timing, it's hard to believe this is all a coincidence. Frith's target is re-confirmed: late-diagnosed autistic women. But is her argument just one huge straw (wo)man...? 🧵

A study which uses an online survey to recruit participants (as this one did) will not include a representative sample of autistic people. Sweeping claims like this should not be made without a representative sample and careful matching. This illustrates the problem with the over-inclusive autism spectrum. It is assumed that a group of people who completed an online survey represents all autistic people when they do not. This research does not show that self-identifying adults have higher unmet needs and unemployment than diagnosed people with high support needs and intellectual disability. Their needs are erased by this research.
@

Autism is not overdiagnosed.📜 Self-identifying autistic adults tended to have similar autistic traits & understanding of autism but *higher* unmet needs, unemployment, & distress than diagnosed adults. They mostly wanted a diagnosis but barriers eg costs: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/25…

The problem with masking, says @FrithUta is that it is unfalsifiable and therefore unscientific. Anyone can say they are masking, and no one else can disagree. What impact does she think this has had on autism? Listen to our podcast interview to find out. neurosense.substack.com/p/why-we-need-…
