"The larger implication is that the East Mediterranean should increasingly be understood not only as a potential export platform, but as an energy-consuming region with growing internal interdependence and shared vulnerability. "
Gabriel Mitchell@GabiAMitchell

Excellent overview by @ElaiRettig on how the war with Iran disrupted Israel's energy exports to Egypt and Jordan, and consequences for regional interdependence - I would add that just as 🇪🇬&🇯🇴 are likely to hedge, 🇮🇱 should also invest in export redundancy besacenter.org/the-other-iran…

Something a bit bold from Erdogan. He congratulates Amedspor, a football club largely supported by Kurdish nationalists, for qualifying to play at Turkey’s premier league.

Önümüzdeki sezon Diyarbakır’ımızı Trendyol Süper Lig’de temsil edecek olan Amedspor’u, tüm @amedskofficial camiasını ve Diyarbakırlı kardeşlerimi yürekten tebrik ediyor, başarılar diliyorum.

There are no big differences within the Israeli political echelon regarding the perception of Turkey. Similarly, Israel remains deeply unpopular (to say the least) across the Turkish public. The pivotal question lies in the strategic policies each state will adopt on the broader stage, beyond the bilateral relations. A government led by Bennett would likely be more moderate than the current Israeli government. Meanwhile, future Turkish policy remains caught between revisionist and status-quo impulses- it remains to be seen which direction will ultimately prevail.

Clash Report, the Turkish psyop that half of political Twitter treats as gospel, had 49,200 followers within 20 hours of its very first tweet. The account — a major source of disinformation and bogus conspiracy theories — is botted as hell. And I can prove it 🧵

Here's the timestamp of the archived post: Feb. 29, 2020 at 11:50:35 UTC. You don't get 50,000 followers on your first day by accident. You get them by buying them, inheriting them from a prior operation, or having a coordinated network load them in. There is no fourth option

“Vacuuming out talent from every jurisdiction” while its own talent flees the country because there is no rule of law? No opportunities for free thinking young Turks who disagree with its regime? Turkey needs to restore the rule of law first and when it’s safe for its own citizens so can it be for others. It’s more than about 🤑🤑🤑🤑
Armaan Sidhu@realarmaansidhu

Turkey just announced 0% tax on foreign income for 20 years. Capital gains on overseas portfolios covered. Inheritance tax slashed. Corporate tax for exporters dramatically reduced. That's not a tweak. That's a country trying to vacuum talent and capital out of every other jurisdiction simultaneously. The structural read is what Turkey's competing against. Dubai's golden visa is 10 years and requires AED 2M+ in property. Singapore's GIP requires SGD 10M deployed. Portugal killed the NHR program in 2024. Italy's flat tax for new residents requires €200K/year and is capped at 15 years. Turkey just undercut every one of them. 20 years. Zero income tax on overseas earnings. No property minimum announced. The bear case is execution risk. Turkish lira has lost 95% of its value against the dollar over the past decade. Inflation hit 85% in 2022 and remains in double digits. You can keep your foreign income in dollars or euros, but the moment you spend it locally, you're paying real costs in lira. The bull case is that Turkey only needs to attract enough capital and talent to fund the next 5-10 years of macro stability. Erdogan's government is betting that "almost free" beats "credible but expensive" for a meaningful share of internationally mobile wealth. For ArtiFac readers, the broader signal is that the global tax arbitrage map is being redrawn. Capital doesn't have a passport. It moves where it's welcomed. If you have foreign income and you're paying full freight in your home country, you're paying for someone else's policy debate. Turkey just made that debate cheaper to opt out of.
