There was a time when most white men in this country would agree that a certain amount of verbal disrespect towards another man warranted violence. I know there is some precedent with "fighting words", but doesn't that also need to include threats of violence to justify reacting with violence? It was my understanding that "fighting words" were very narrow. Do racial slurs automatically count as "fighting words" that people can legally assault others for using in public? If yes, what words are on this list, specifically? If there are words that are so taboo no one can utter them I would like to see them listed in law.
