For 15 years the Equality and Human Rights Commission & the Government Equalities Office got the law wrong causing harm to women and girls, and to institutions. The utter casual disregard with which they look set on doing it again is breathtaking.

The @EHRC says that information about sex is "likely to constitute special category data for the purposes of the Data Protection Act and UKGDPR". It gives no caselaw for this.

@ForWomenScot @MForstater @amnesty I bet @amnesty would be surprised at how many of us so-called TERFS used to be Amnesty members, active volunteers, running local groups, letter-writing, fundraising. We were well-versed in human rights principles and learned how to campaign. They changed, not us.

In which @amnesty is astonished that women began to organise to defend their rights at the time governments said they would legislate them away. This is a bit like asking why there was no criticism of Reform before 2018 or why the debate over assisted dying ramped up in the last two years.

@cathydevine56 @The_TUC TUC is supporting self id, without articulating what this means in practice for women and girls. Men in women's prisons. Mixed sex hospital wards and rape crisis support. Women unable to have a female doctor for intimate exams or a female carer. Utter betrayal.

@The_TUC Trans people have the same rights as everyone else. What they want, & aren’t entitled to, are other people’s sex based rights.

Just published A legal Opinion by Ben Cooper KC and Miles Grandison about the placement of trans-identifying males in the female prison estate. The TLDR is that it likely amounts to unlawful direct and indirect discrimination. crimeandjustice.org.uk/trans-prisoner…

We welcome the EHRC’s updated Code of Practice laid before Parliament. We were especially pleased to see direct references to victim-survivors of male violence. We will continue to provide women-and-girl-led women-and-girl-only services. More from us here niaendingviolence.org.uk/nias-ceo-respo…

Anyone who knows anything about this knows what a brave and stalwart chair of the EHRC Kishwer made. A very rare example of a principled figure in public life with a backbone

Sad to read in @thetimes that Bridget Phillipson is blaming me for delay to EHRC Code. She certainly stoops low. She had Code for 3 months when she sent me this letter last November - no indication of any grandstanding then.

@SarahLudford @hareinthefire No interview with a survivor of DV emphasising the need for s-sex refuges, nor from a woman attacked on a mixed ward, nor a girl forced to compete in her sport against a huge boy. Just a middle-aged trans identifying man who wants to be 'validated' due to his clothing choice.

The gender pay gap reporting guidance for employers was updated yesterday, to make clear that reporting must be based on sex. gov.uk/government/pub… "Recording employees’ sex In the Equality Act 2010, the terms “male”, “female”, “men” and “women” refer to a person’s biological sex. The regulations covering gender pay gap reporting are made under the Equality Act 2010. This means that gender pay gap reporting must be based on employees’ biological sex."

An unexpected twist for those waiting for the EHRC Code of Practice - a clarification of Gender Pay Gap reporting rules, has to be sex & not gender. Finally! If employers were worried beforehand, they should be now if they're not recording sex already 1/ #recording-employees-sex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">gov.uk/government/pub…

‘Being kind is often at the expense of women's rights.’ Independent MP Rosie Duffield praises the clarity that has been brought with the government’s guidance on single-sex spaces, saying whoever replaces Keir Starmer needs to look at this ‘shift’ in culture.

Here’s @HJoyceGender fact-checking at pace on Jeremy Vine on Radio 2. Have left the intro on the front for you to pick up the editorial tone. She was immensely mismatched with the following guest - it’s embarrassing that experts in the law are up against uniformed activists.

It’s extraordinary that the BBC consistently platforms men upset they have to use gender neutral toilets instead of women’s toilets over the female rape survivors who have been unable to access a female-only support group, in relation to the EHRC guidance. It says it all, really.
