For the first time, the #US government publicly formalizes, by means of a State Department communiqué, an offer of assistance to #Cuba that is 100 million dollars worth. It is still not clear whether this would be a material or in chas assistance, or if it would be destined to meet the most pressing needs facing the people at this moment, in terms of fuel, food and medicines. Anyhow, even if we take into account the inconsistency of the apparent generosity by the ones who submit the Cuban people to a collective punishment through the imposition of an economic warfare, the Cuban government does not usually refuse the foreign assistance that is offered in good faith and for genuine cooperative purposes, wether bilaterally or multilaterally. The Cuban government has no inconvenient either in working with the Catholic Church, with which it shares a long and positive experience of joint work in such a cooperative work. We are ready to listen to the characteristics of such offer and the way in which this will materialize. We expect it would be free from political maneuvers or any attempt to take advantage of the shortages and hardships of a people under harassment. The best assistance that the US government could offer to the noble Cuban people in this or any other moment would be to de-escalate the measures of the energy, economic, commercial and financial blockade, which has been tightened like never before during the last few months and severely affects all sectors of the Cuban economy and society.
