@SamQuinnCBS 2 of those "weak picks" they used to trade for K. love, so I'd say they were pretty lucky

Yes, the Cavs were one of the other remarkably lucky teams in history. It's the luckiest stretch any team has ever had in raw terms. It just came in a relatively weak stretch of top picks. Ironically, the one No. 1 pick they missed out on, Anthony Davis, was the best of the run.

Okay, now do the Cavs 2011-2014

@SherwoodStrauss I should specify: San Antonio was right there with Cleveland. The 2017 Warriors are, imo, the best team of all time. I think San Antonio probably takes Game 1 and loses the rest of the series not super competitively, just like Cleveland did, except their win was in Game 4.

FWIW I don’t think San Antonio was right there with the Warriors in 2017. Being up 19 in Game 1 isn’t the same as having enough to actually beat that insane roster over 7 games
Sam Quinn@SamQuinnCBS

Was the gap between Cavs-Warriors and everyone else really that big? 2015, probably. I thought the Clippers at the time but they blew the Houston series. 2016, OKC was right there. 2017, San Antonio was right there. Then, well, Zaza. 2018, Houston was better than Cleveland.

@kawhi_ring You play who’s in front of you. Just like in 2016 when curry and other key pieces on the team were injured. Oh well. And even against bron in that series they were one game away

@mono_golira_ @golden11535 @samosu_ @haruhihiphop Yes, he was a good offensive player. But if you have Curry, KD, Barry and Wilt, you don’t need a facilitator. You need a guy that gives you spacing. The best thing would be to sub out curry early and then have him and draymond run the offense while the other starters rest

prime Dray was A BEAST offensively, he might not have been a great scorer (he dropped 30+ in a finals game 7 tho), but he was by far the best or second best facilitator (depending if you consider Steph’s play-making facilitating) on that roster. He was a big reason why that roster was good offensively his screens and complex set execution was pristine, not to mention is top-tier defense you absolutely want. But then idk he got old and his CTE developed ig cause he been terrible lately. All that to say, put Draymond at that starting spot

@GabrielR_SP @suhbasschin @keerthikau Game 4 where the facts show refs actually favoured the Cavs 😂😂😂
Danny Cunningham@RealDCunningham

There are seven incorrect non-calls on the Last 2 Minute Report from yesterday’s #Cavs and Raptors game. - Missed defensive 3 seconds on Mobley - Missed offensive foul on Harden - Missed double dribble on Mitchell - Missed foul call on Shead (on 8 second violation) - Missed foul call on Murray-Boyles - Missed foul call on Strus - Missed foul call on Barnes Not a banner day for that crew.

Really great showing for the Raptors. Scottie was the best player in the series. CMB is special. Shead and Ja’Kobe rule. Darko’s the right coach. They’re closer than I thought. Go trade for Kawhi again. If they upgrade on the Ingram spot they can compete for the East next year.

Promise this Raptors team has showed during this series really makes you think. If they traded for a better player than Ingram, if Quickley wasn’t hurt, if they hit on a contributor rather than missing with Dick…

@melodante12548 @SamMonsonNFL IIRC “steals” are much less predictive of sucess than “reaches” are predictive of failure but steals still perform somewhat better than you’d expect based solely on draft position. But would have to recheck that

@SamMonsonNFL How do players fare who fall down the board? Not by 5-10 picks but like....an entire round? 1 and 1/2 rounds? When the whole league passes on a player, it's a good sign that the consensus board was never right to begin with.

OK, let's go through this. Of course there is no master board shared among all 32 teams in which they have all agreed to the ranking of drafted players. If there was, what would be the point of a draft? NFL teams are all operating - to a degree - in the dark when it comes to how other teams rank the draft class. The Consensus Board refers to, effectively, a composite of a variety of publicly available big boards. There are multiple variations of it, due to how many and which big boards are included, but they are all broadly the same. They serve effectively as a 'wisdom of the crowds' big board. Is the 'consensus' element a misnomer? Maybe. But who cares. The point about the consensus board is that people have run various studies on it and what happens when NFL teams deviate from it in a significant way in one direction or the other. And also how it performs vs NFL teams who obviously have more information than Joe Public. The board tends to perform well despite that information shortcoming. The most important takeaway is that the evidence is pretty strong that major reaches relative to the consensus board are bad. The hit rate in the draft across pretty much anything is bad, so all anybody is trying to do with any piece of information is increase the hit rate, move the percentage in your direction. Reaches relative to the consensus board move the percentages in the opposite direction. They make it LESS likely you will draft a good player than if you had just blindly taken a guy expected to go around where your draft pick was. You CAN hit on a reach, but it is statistically less likely. You are, by definition, chasing an outlier or longshot, and that tends not to go well.
AngryScoutVet@NotSoAngryScout

Show it to me. We don’t have a consensus board in our war room. We have our team board. Are you referring to NFS and BLESTO? Those are 1 opinion of an entry level scout. They are not a consensus for us. There might be consensus media rankings but we don’t go by it.

@carson_tk OKC cannot be above the Cavs (until they win this year). They either should be at the same tier or Cavs above. Cavs have 5 finals appearences to 2. Also Denver and Cleveland cannot be on the same tier. Cavs can only be behind Warriors, Lakers, Heat and celtics among nba teams
