@HTGJava @froggytonic @theserfstv It's not exclusive, but is an extreme majority. Whenever it's non-native people, it's usually someone LGBTQ identifying, or someone the cop just personally doesn't like.

@nucksjaysnraps @DrewCouver56 @Aaronpete_ Even when they survive the multiple catches, the females are often so stressed, that they stop spawning, and are known to have even absorbed their eggs. Catch and release in reality is basically no better than killing, especially for long lived species.

@Ocie_Casts Do you hold this argument for sports? Like if someone absolutely dominated in hockey in the KHL, but then went to the NHL and was just average, are they just an okay player?

A lot of the arguments surrounding my post here rely on the idea that you can be considered 'good' simply for being in the upper percentage of players. But this alone has many implications. - Most players in Bronze->Diamond are CASUAL players and are not making efforts to improve - An influx of new players entering low ranks would cause (according to this logic) all Diamond/Masters players to automatically be considered "better" Overwatch players overnight, despite not actually improving at the game whatsoever - Entirely ignores relative effort At the end of the day, I think it makes people uncomfortable to know that being Diamond/Masters doesn't mean you are good, and that you've barely scratched the surface at that point. Only knowing a little of what Overwatch has to offer and being kinda bad is OK, I think that should not be seen as such a negative. But of course being told that is the case will always result in very emotional responses.
Ocie オシ || 오시@Ocie_Casts

I mean yeah, once you hit Masters it can be argued that you've just started to actually learn the game. You really don't know how to do anything even remotely correctly UNTIL you get to Masters. When you get there, you can begin to learn how the game should be played.

@illustrationrec @ericson4smith @anishmoonka Sorry you're right. I'm gonna just drop invasive species all over. Just leave em there. Fuck it. Who cares anymore. There should be 5 species of life on the planet, Himalayan blackberries and English ivy being two of them.

Colombia has 200 wild hippos right now. They all came from 4 that Pablo Escobar smuggled in for his private zoo in 1981. Three females, one male. After he was killed in 1993, officials left the hippos behind. They escaped into the river. That was 45 years ago. 16 hippos by 2007. 40 by 2014. 120 by 2019. Around 200 today. Colombia is the only country outside Africa with wild hippos. And these hippos hit breeding age earlier than African ones, so they multiply faster. Each one eats 110 lbs of plants a night. They also dump 13 lbs of waste a day, almost all of it into the water. The waste feeds tiny organisms that suck the oxygen out and kill fish. It's pushing out 3 native species running out of space: the West Indian manatee, the Dahl's toad-headed turtle, and the Magdalena River turtle. Colombia spent 12 years across 3 governments trying to sterilize the hippos. It didn't work. Sterilizing one hippo needs a crane. The surgery is dangerous for the vets. A 2023 study said it would cost $1 to $2 million just to slow the breeding, and even then hippos would still be around for another 50 to 100 years. The government asked 7 countries and 2 international zoo groups to take some. Zero said yes. Then Anant Ambani made his offer. He runs Vantara, a 3,500-acre wildlife center in Gujarat that holds 47,000+ animals (200+ elephants, 160 tigers, 200 lions, 900 crocodiles). His proposal: take the 80 hippos Colombia plans to cull, fly them to India, cover their care for life. But the math has a catch. The cull was for 80 of the estimated 200. If Vantara takes those 80 alive instead of dead, it's a humane trade. The other 120 stay in the river. They breed faster than African hippos. The original 4 became 200 in 45 years.

@GallopingWalrus @anishmoonka When I say nature takes I balance I don’t mean in the way that we wish. The environment would eventually work with hippos. Other species would go away. And that’s ok! The only certainty is change. This happens everywhere in the world every day and we say nothing.

@ericson4smith @anishmoonka It doesn't. There are thousands of species of plant and animal extinct because of invasive species. The real solution here, is to kill the hippos. Just go out there, and shoot every last one. But that's not the popular option so it won't get employed.

Why am I imagining what a sword-focused medieval European anime would look like. Someone switches to fingering the guard and you jump to shocked reactions from all the onlookers. A 2 minute monologue on its pros and cons while the fighters stand there

@ManoThigasx Most of these just aren't important to people, and the ease of just launching steam and buying it is better than multiple sources for games. Integrated friends lists, messaging, not having to get around DRM. For most people, steam is better.

@SteelDiver @MilkPls68 This is so stupid. Most blocks aren't static parties, they're active parries, in which the attempted parry would go towards your blade, and then when your blade is turned off, the "defending" blade would keep going and cut you.
