The HARRY POTTER TV series won't have one season a year "For some of the bigger shows like Harry Potter, huge world-building shows, it would be nice to have those on an annual basis. But from a production point of view, it’s just not possible." - Casey Bloys

@hd__angel_ I've said this before but I can't really tell what is or isn't the case here because there's not a lot of statistical data on it. Both sides are just going purely off anecdotes here

Like, moving to New York to be an artist, having weird pedantic lifestyle arguments about feminism, weirdly anthropomorphizing your dog, these are not easily cleaved along generational lines. Much more about race/class character

I'm at a big university which skews it, but weird tic I see often among millennial commentators is the idea that some tendency or other is "dying" because "Gen Z" is changing the guard, when theyre just old. Plenty of current day college students do all that stuff

@MawkAnthony Yeah I feel like the takeaway a lot of people are having from this is that SE hasn't done enough to stay consistent to appeal to younger audiences and while that's true, I think selling to this many 30+ year olds who have presumably stuck with the brand for decades is impressive

As a 42 year old, I'm proud to be part of the 62%. You're never too old to enjoy your hobbies. Also, instead of being a doomer about this, SE is still currently in their restructuring phase and this only makes me even more curious as to what that plan is. Good? Bad? We'll see. 🤷‍♂️

@kingjammerson @MinModulation This is what I'd probably do if I was more serious about reading because I'm a slow reader and an audiobook would probably help me not take forever to read. However I instead just don't use audiobooks at all and read like one book a year

@linkkling From what I can tell he's Chrischan for zoomers, but significantly less unhinged. But also the "This is unrelated but I need your help right now" tweet is extremely funny

@meteotek @linkkling There were definitely people online who didn't like DP when they came out for being too slow, though it was a relatively minor compared to the backlash gen 8/9 got. And yeah HGSS specifically were immediately beloved

@linkkling Opinions on Gen 4 are a bit of a rollercoaster it started high cause of the online connectivity and resurgence of Pokemon's popularity then HGSS + Gen 5 came out and people started being kinda down on it then Sinnoh nostalgia got big ups in the later 2010s and now it's back down.

in contrast to this though. the generational opinion plummet of gen 4 also needs to be studied. i remember around 2019 it was like "this is my childhood game, it's peak, sinnoh remake WHEN" and now people say it was never that good and that it was awful even before the remakes😭
jamie ▴@linkkling

the generational opinion flip on gen 7 over the years needs to be studied bc i remember 10 years ago everyone thought it was weird and different and bad and ugly and the anime was too kid friendly but now going back to them as an adult they're just genuinely peak pokemon

@AdequateEmily Birdman is good but I did a full watch of his filmography and honestly that shit mostly just bored me. If he made a movie about the deaf Japanese girl in Babel it would have been a masterpiece tho

@Mang0Reborn As a millennial there were never a ton of Dragon Quest fans in the west. It's had the problem where Enix only gives a game in the series a big push once a decade. Warrior II through IV and VII especially were just kind of thrown out to die on old hardware in the US

@linkkling I feel like the consensus on gen 7 (the games at least idc about the anime) was that the vanilla games were good if you could get past the tutorializing but then USUM didn't add enough

@ranmasaotome96 The thesis I got from a summary of this video is that South Park isn't good social commentary but it's also not the "both sides are bad" centrist brainrot liberal cultural commentators from a decade ago said it was

@MargBarCinema Tbh that's fair! But it also puts you out of step with a lot of folks both on here and Letterboxd which imo shouldn't be much of a surprise given that most people aren't leftists and it's even more uncommon for people to judge film primarily through a political lens

@MargBarCinema Like yeah they're similar in that they both have quips and center American exceptionally but that's where the similarities end. And if you take issue with MCU solely for the latter then you're going to have to do mental gymnastics for a lot of the modern western canon

@MargBarCinema My biggest criticism of this criticism is that I think if you don't understand why people like PHM but not MCU movies then I think you fundamentally misunderstand the biggest problem ppl have with MCU. Which is that they often look bad and fake because of green screen overuse

@megalarper Idk it is kinda mutually exclusive in the sense that we have limited time to do anything and most of the time there's no reason to play a game on an emulator and real hardware. Obviously both are great but like. The original tweet said that! I'm not sure what your point is here

@AnimeSerbia It's been a while since I read it but my reaction to it, I guess beyond not agreeing with the thesis, was just kind of "ok". I feel like if I did buy into its worldview idk what I'd do with that as a white person in the west, other than hoping the global south starts a revolution

@Hatsuu They should revert back to the full one but also cut down on everything else. My movies are starting like a full 30 minutes after the listed start time atm
