@dark_monstre Critics yes but I heard so much "why do I have to play as Raiden he sucks" and then the jen MGS3 launched it was another chance to dog on MGS2. I've noticed mostly this net set of fans starting the series with master series vol 1 were positive about it

@GameDadVII mgs2's redemption arc happened way before master collection, in fact the critics loved the game even on release

Really grateful for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 and Mass Effect Legendary Edition They gave two games that were judged too harshly at launch a second chance: Metal Gear Solid 2 and Mass Effect 3 Seeing new fans discover and appreciate them has been awesome

@V_BurghRPG Suiko 3 is one of my all time favs! Ill have to truly give persona and SMT shot, I just never vibed with the school / schoolage vibes but I can get over it

SaGa games are as close as I can think of. I would make the argument that Persona and SMT have some strong elements as well. You can set a distinct playstyle preference for yourself if you don't just metagame. Dialogue options affecting relationships with cast. Morality choices. Dialogue options allowing for non-comb at solutions if desired. And multiple endings. Suikoden II and Suikoden III definitely give me some of the same vibes as playing a western rpg as well. Optional recruits if desired. Strong party building options with versatile builds. Multiple endings. Hell the Trinity Sight System in Suikoden 3 as you know essentially allows you to determine who the main protagonist is going to be. God, I love the Trinity Sight System. Seeing the story in different orders and getting different scenes was so cool.

Are there any Japanese-developed CRPGs? The only series that I think uses shades of CRPG would be maybe SaGa, which feels much more western/tabletop focused than the standard JRPG.

@CaponeToneTony I might mod it next because modding the vita was fun and the pstv would actually be easier to capture content from than the vita

@mcquack306 @chaosprimeZ final fantasy tactics and Romancing saga 2 had a switch 1 -> 2 upgrade path so it may even be a team by team basis within square

@chaosprimeZ Since it’s primarily been square enix titles doing this, it’s a publisher decision. Trails in the sky has an upgrade path from switch to switch 2 for $1. Nintendo also offers upgrades to their switch 1 games as well.

Is this a Nintendo or a 3rd party publisher decision?
