@AAG_Wolfy @HDRgameAnalysis ok. When I did the table I stopped testing at 22 steps. 27 steps is around 5500nits. That means your TV is tone mapping a lot. Try 5500nits in games vs 1500nits and see what looks better. Test with bright specular highlights and look for clipping.

@GamingTech_HDR @HDRgameAnalysis I don’t have an Xbox unfortunately, the sun doesn’t disappear on PS5 until the 27th click tho for my display that’s all I really know

So @GamingTech_HDR says to ignore the number when setting up the max hdr brightness slider and @HDRgameAnalysis says to ignore the on screen instructions so I’m kinda at a loss on what to do now, any thoughts or explanations?

@AAG_Wolfy @HDRgameAnalysis Your screen might be complete different. Very hard to tell. I am almost sure there is some sort of tone mapping. But setting it to the max peak brightness as tested by rtings just works if your screen has proper HGiG. HDR in general is not simple...it's a mess

@GamingTech_HDR @HDRgameAnalysis So use 4000nits when using DTM but what if our display doesn’t have HGIG or DTM options? I use the MSI MPG 274urdfw e16m MINILED and on the PS5s system level calibration the suns don’t disappear until the 27th click, would that be correct or would I do it differently?

@HDRgameAnalysis @AAG_Wolfy I know this table from somewhere ;-) If your Screen is doing tone mapping setting it to 18 clicks may be wrong. Do you have a Xbox? You can press all four shoulder buttons when in the HDR Menu to see the number. Follow the instruction on the screen and you know the correct number

@AAG_Wolfy @HDRgameAnalysis Almost every screen apart from proper implemented HGIG is doing tone mapping. As soon tone mapping is in play you can’t use pure numbers unless you know what the TV expects. I tested and explained it in this video: youtu.be/mAtULIEQvjQ .

@HDRgameAnalysis @GamingTech_HDR Okay I definitely understand that, does the same apply to a MINI-LED monitor as well? I use the MSI MPG274urdfwe16m personally don’t use OLEDs for gaming because of burn in risk

@GamingTech_HDR Spiele und schaue auch Filme in HDR seit Anfang 2026 im kompletten abgedunkelten Raum. Soweit ich weiß hat Woled eine geringere Spitzenhelligkeit bei HGIG. Werde ich dennoch dieses Wow Effekt beim ersten Mal OLED erleben?

@GamingTech_HDR Hallo Markus eine Frage ich möchte mir OLED TV kaufen. Dies wird mein 1. OLED TV. Ich nutze aktuell einen 43 Zoll Mini-LED 4K TV von Samsung. Zur Auswahl habe ich 42 Zoll S90F und C5 42 Zoll. Ich spiele immer im dunklen Raum (HGIG). Soll ich zum LG oder Samsung zugreifen?
