In 1973 the best post war England team was picked for a computerised Test against their Australian counterparts - all bar Fred Trueman made the photo Knott, Laker, Bedser, Wardle, @GeoffreyBoycott, Cowdrey, Hutton, Bailey, May and Comton - the computer got the result wrong though

I’ve been trying to think of 80s and 90s cricketers who missed out on the franchise revolution, but who may have been big money players (if they’d had the chance). So far I’ve got: Sir Viv Richards Sir Curtly Ambrose Courtney Walsh Sir Ian Botham Darren Gough Graham Gooch Robin Smith Kapil Dev Anil Kumble Mohammad Azharuddin Allan Donald Lance Klusener Javed Miandad Saeed Anwar Imran Khan Wasim Akram Waqar Younis Who have I missed out?

@jason_king72 @ncakos316 Thank God, someone who knows the game. Miller and Faulkner up there with the greatest. I doubt anyone replying here has even heard of the latter. 👏👏👏

John Edrich seems to be another star of English cricket whose legacy isn’t as valued as it should be. Despite looking 55 for most of his career, he was amongst the best players of his generation, playing 77 Tests, averaging 43.54 and scoring a triple century against NZ in 1965. Lillee reckoned Edrich one of the hardest men to remove in world cricket.

John Snow seems to be England’s great forgotten strike bowler. He played 49 Tests between 1965 and 1976, taking 202 wickets at an average of 26.66 and economy rate of 2.68. In his 4 series against Australia, Snow was the leading England wicket-taker 3 times, and at home in 1968, he was 2nd. EW Swanton wrote that he “had not seen an Englishman bowl either faster or better than Snow at Sydney since Tyson”. Perhaps his career and achievements deserve a bit more recognition?

@StuartFrazer @SusanJardine16 @refsupportuk Ok, hypothetically later today. AFC have a corner - Gabriel has Van de Ven in an armlock, simultaneously Romero has Gyokeres in a half Nelson waiting for the corner. Arsenal pen, Spurs free kick or a warning to the players and a card for re-offending?

@Garfield1801 @SusanJardine16 @refsupportuk Referees do use VAR as a safety valve. But I don’t agree that a law change would make things worse. Players would soon get the message when there are penalties and red cards for grappling offences with the ball not even in play.

Another stupid account that does not know the laws of the game. “Football insider”, try getting inside the laws of the game instead of making a fool of yourself with nonsense like this 🤦‍♂️
Football Insider@footyinsider247

🚨 Newcastle thought they'd equalised once again but Dan Burn's header was ruled out, despite the defender being pushed into an offside position by a Man City player. Should a penalty be awarded in situations like this? 🤔

@StuartFrazer @SusanJardine16 @refsupportuk Strange your take us that I don’t like VAR. It certainly has improved decision making but it has made on field refs both lazy and meek. They don’t need to make the bigs calls as they have a safety net. They’re passing the buck. Players would get the message with strong refs

@Garfield1801 @SusanJardine16 @refsupportuk Players would soon get the message and stop grappling. If you don’t like VAR, don’t watch those matches. Plenty of lower league games without VAR. Statistically, VAR has improved the level of decision making.

@StuartFrazer @SusanJardine16 @refsupportuk All about opinions, Stuart. VAR already sucks the life out of games, literally every corner would be reviewed in minutiae with your own proposal. Which is probably why the current law is in place. If you persistently commit fouls with the ball out of play you deserve a card
