“The transition from being a hostage family to a bereaved family is tough, painful and cruel, but it also brings closure.” We must bring all 56 hostages back home. We can leave no one behind. #UntilTheLastHostage #BringThemHomeNow

Sarah Milgrim, 26, was a passionate peace activist. She held a Master’s in International Studies from American University, and a second Master’s in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development from the United Nations University for Peace. At the Israeli Embassy in Washington DC, she dedicated her work to building a future where Israelis and Palestinians could live side by side in peace and dignity. She also volunteered with Tech2Peace, an organization that brings together young Israelis and Palestinians to foster dialogue, understanding, and reconciliation. When Elias Rodriguez shot her, simply because she was Jewish, he murdered not just a bright young woman, but the very kind of person our world so desperately needs: someone working tirelessly to create a more peaceful, just, and shared future for all. May her memory be a blessing.

Venomous, untrue statements about Israel, its supporters, and the war against Hamas in Gaza have chipped away at the old taboo against open antisemitism in America. Constant demonization of American Jews and Zionists is how a democratic state and its supporters have been made into targets. It is how the “permission structure” for violence against Jews in America has been erected. Growing up, learning about Simon of Trent or other medieval blood libels, I wondered how something so unnatural, so deranged, could ever happen. How lies could spread so far, transmogrify into a movement, infect culture so comprehensively, and engender deadly action. Those who participate in this culture of lies and who now want to distance themselves from yesterday’s violence will insist that the alleged killer’s acts do not represent them. That it harms their movement. But how can anyone honest with themselves not draw a connection between a culture that says Zionists are anti-humans—even Nazis themselves—and the terrorists now attacking Jews across the globe?

1/ One of President Trump’s first acts was to pardon those convicted in connection with January 6th.  Here are some of the convicted felons he set free:

23/ This is the worst day in America since Pearl Harbor. Not because of what has happened *tonight*—nothing *happened*, in the literal sense, tonight—but because of what our country will now become in the short and medium term. I cannot tell you how different your life is, now.

The people of Texas, regardless of party, have the opportunity to elect a leader with character, vision, and the willingness to roll up his sleeves and work hard to do right by them. Let’s help send a great leader like @ColinAllredTX to the U.S. Senate.

He also shot films about #Mariupol. The second film, unfortunately, did not have time to finish. In Mariupol, he was captured by the Russians, tortured and shot. MANTAS KVEDARAVICIUS, Lithuanian 🇱🇹 documetary film maker. Eternal memory of the Hero!😔🕯

Amid the horrifying loss of so many Israelis and Palestinians, Americans were kidnapped on 10/7/23 and six are still being held hostage by Hamas. Barely in the news. No yellow ribbons on buildings like 1980. Say a prayer for all who’ve died, and for those still alive and awaiting rescue by their government. 🇺🇸

Books allow our children access to critical information that helps them understand themselves and the world around them. We have seen a record number of book bans, with 2,571 unique book titles being targeted in 2022. Please join me in standing up against these bans by visiting UniteAgainstBookBans.org

Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. And librarians are on the front lines, fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone.

It’s been a year since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Since then, 14 states have banned most abortions, leaving millions of women and girls with nowhere to turn for the care they need.   And yet, there are reasons to hope.  After Roe v. Wade was overturned, voters in Michigan, California, and Vermont helped enshrine abortion rights in their state constitutions. And governors in states like Nevada, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania have signed executive orders to protect abortion access.
