SOUTHALL STATION - Summer 1974
Seen on a down express working (1B50?), a Class 50 locomotive on Mk.II air-conditioned stock about to pass under the footbridge at the east end of the station.
In the background is the Southall DMU depot, and a Class 117 Pressed Steel DMU stabled.

@cliffordbeeton @WoodheadRoute Catenary wasn't in issue in its closure.
It was the collapse of rail freight that killed it.
English

@WoodheadRoute Hard to believe that this remaining bit of the Woodhead line has been 25Kv AC for longer than it was 1500 v DC now.Just a shame they never converted the whole route before closure. The majority of the overhead is still the original DC catenary so was hardly life expired as BR said

@DriverPotter So long as it's introduced gradually when trains need attention I'm all for. It'll be no extra cost then.

@EngFocus @NoelDolphin I see a nice livery.
You see a flag.
Pity.....
What's wrong with our flag anyway.?

So we're really going to roll this out at a national level with no differentiation better local, regional, intercity? Flag waving taking precedence over style and function 😒

Another big rail moment today, as South Western gets its first GBR train. Since coming into public ownership, a new fleet of trains has been rolling out, giving passengers more spacious, comfortable & air conditioned journeys. We're building a railway you can be proud of. 🇬🇧🚆

SHREWSBURY STATION - Summer 1976
Fifty years ago!
A view looking across from the south end of platform one sees Class 25 locomotive 25056 waiting with a load of hoppers (house coal?), awaiting the road on the up through goods line.
25056 was a then a Crewe allocated locomotive.

I lived there for three years on my own.
Then I got married, had two children, and never been alone for forty-two years.....

Wind power is more than just generation—it's key to grid stability. 🌬️ @VattenfallGroup experts debunk the myth that wind is inflexible, showing how it now provides vital fast-response services for a stable system. Read more on @WeDontHaveTime app.wedonthavetime.org/posts/6095eb90…

Sheds aplenty at the Mecca 💥
The main attraction was of course the Lumo 222 but plenty of sheds to be seen plowing there trade through the station 🙌

@jameswmullen What? Like the Birmingham Airport maglev?
Tried, tested, abandoned......
English

@philatrail But, slower speed = more trains required for the same level of service. Has that been taken into account?
Probably not.....

@NowtbutaLad Fortunately the hotel has been extensively renovated and is still in operation.
