This afternoon's short 2.1 miles walk took me from my home over to Bradda Glen and back. A very enjoyable walk, out through the housing estates, and returning across the golf course. Here's a view of our lovely village and beach, in glorious sunshine 🌞

SOUTHALL STATION - Summer 1974 Seen on a down express working (1B50?), a Class 50 locomotive on Mk.II air-conditioned stock about to pass under the footbridge at the east end of the station. In the background is the Southall DMU depot, and a Class 117 Pressed Steel DMU stabled.

@cliffordbeeton @WoodheadRoute Catenary wasn't in issue in its closure. It was the collapse of rail freight that killed it.

@WoodheadRoute Hard to believe that this remaining bit of the Woodhead line has been 25Kv AC for longer than it was 1500 v DC now.Just a shame they never converted the whole route before closure.The majority of the overhead is still the original DC catenary so was hardly life expired as BR said

@DriverPotter So long as it's introduced gradually when trains need attention I'm all for. It'll be no extra cost then.

BANKS CIRCUS - 22nd May 2026 From Bus Vannin's heritage fleet, 410LMN is former Douglas Corporation bus Nº15, an A.E.C Regent V 2D2RA double decker built in 1968 with a Willowbrook B64F body. It has the last AEC double decker chassis manufactured.

SHREWSBURY STATION - Summer 1976 Fifty years ago! A view looking across from the south end of platform one sees Class 25 locomotive 25056 waiting with a load of hoppers (house coal?), awaiting the road on the up through goods line. 25056 was a then a Crewe allocated locomotive.

I can't help but feel that by the time HS2 is built trains will have been surpassed by some form of hovering thing.

@philatrail But, slower speed = more trains required for the same level of service. Has that been taken into account? Probably not.....

Transport Secretary says changes to HS2 will save £2.5bn and a shave a year off delivery. Costs now reckoned to be in the range of £87.7-102.7bn and delivery in window May 2040-December 2043. Says speed will be 320kph. This lowers cost of testing, she says.

SPRINGBURN WORKS - 1972 Class 26 BRC&W type 2 locomotive 5316 stands outside the workshops of Glasgow's Springburn Works in early 1972, fresh out of the paint shop. It was withdrawn in October 1975 as 26016.
