@uncreativetom The point is, the bat tunnel was necessary in order to comply with legislaltion. We can argue about whether or not that legistation is sound or correct, but it is disingenuous to use it as a stick with which to beat HS2.

This projects price has obviously been way overblown but I’m so tired of seeing this bat tunnel brought up in every argument. The bat tunnel is a good thing and is a minuscule part of the project cost. There are far bigger fish to fry with this project than nature protection
Looking for Growth@lfg_uk

Sheer incompetence, or something worse? HS2 will cost more than £100bn. JUST HS2. Spain's ENTIRE High Speed Rail network cost LESS than £100bn. THE ENTIRE NETWORK! The world's SECOND longest. There are NO excuses. This is a choice. Why do our leaders keep choosing it?

@EngFocus Northern have a critical need for longer trains on some electrified routes as well, such as Leeds-Skipton. I believe there's already a plan to lengthen some of the intermediate station platforms there. No idea if that's where they'll be deployed.

Qualified welders are in short supply across the UK — and HS2 is helping to plug the skills gap.👷‍♂️ 10 new welding apprentices have joined the project in the West Midlands, helping construct the viaducts that lead into #Birmingham's Curzon Street Station. 5,771 formerly unemployed people have now found work on the project — and we're committed to ensuring local people continue to benefit from the skills and opportunities #HS2 creates. @EngFocus A clever business would find ways to entice more people to make use of a service to increase revenue Even if they sold journeys at a small loss, they can re-coup much of that through the exorbitant prices in the onboard shop

@EngFocus Has it really taken you 30 years to come to this momentous decision? No one since 1950s BR has run the railways for the benefit of passengers.

Pretty much the reason why I fell in love with trains when I was young, so I'm genuinely chuffed to be helping @225groupuk's preservation ambitions and keeping the legacy of them alive as they move closer to retirement in the coming years
