On Tuesday afternoon, my parents were involved in a head-on collision with a driver who appears to have swerved into their lane. Tragically, both of them died, my mum on the scene, and my dad a short while later at the hospital.

@JennMForster I mean it the sense of either outcome. Elon means to drive traffic, to establish Twitter poll = democratic choice, and to give him cover on the Trump decision. My guess is he’ll go the way of the poll, irrespective.

A wild guess. Once the poll is closed, the claim will be made that the “people have spoken”. Ignoring of course the basics of polling, that those responding aren’t verified as authentic individuals, & that Twitter feeds are algorithm driven. Roman Circus 2.0

@rainbowinsid @nickhedley @Gary22k I like Reddit because it's so configurable. You choose the subreddits, however obscure, that are of personal interest to you. And they're often very deep and enlightening. For instance, Reddit's coverage of the current protests in Iran is so much better than on any other medium.

Hi, distributed systems engineer here. Systems like Twitter are both resilient, and fragile.

@rainbowinsid @nickhedley I think in part it’s a place where the worst comes out. But on the whole I’ve connected with some amazing people, found research shortcuts on plenty stuff, tested ideas, & get news literally as it happens. Be sad if it crashes.

@Gary22k @nickhedley But is it a cesspit? Yes, I see nasties, of course; but I've also found support, friendship, fascinating info, a way to hold corporates to account, and undreamt of access to scientists, activists, enthusiasts, knowledge creators and more.

Very much doubt Twitter is about to go up in flames. If you’d just spent $44 billion buying it, you’d make damn sure it didn’t disappear a few weeks later. If it does somehow die though, it’s probably not the worst thing. It’s a cesspit of misinformation and hate.
