Disappointing analysis on food price increases in today's Irish Times. Farmers are price takers and don't have the capacity to "push up their prices" as claimed. Also fails to say that the CCPC report also showed that Irish food price levels today are similar to 2008, 16 yrs ago

You think it's expensive now? Wait until we're at the mercy of foreign exporters to make up the short fall. I'd expect this rhetoric from a tabloid, not the @IrishTimes. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Most people are at home, relaxing and eating dinner, that farmers have worked to provide. There are thousands of farmers like us who won't get home until dark tonight. The veg sector is a dying industry in Ireland.

@ITjohnmcmanus I'm absolutely appalled at your article blaming Irish farming for price rises in groceries. Do you know where I am right now? I'm in a field at 10 past 7 in the evening on a Thursday, tending to our crops.

Very good piece in the @irishexaminer supplement this morning highlighting the issues facing veg, fruit and potato growers in the country. Worth a read!

Table from recently published data by Eurostat on the EU food chain. Ireland had the lowest increase in food prices in 2012-2022 period of ANY country in EU. Puts in context why farmers are so frustrated with Retailers recent actions further undermining irish retail food prices

@ShanHalpin132 @Fingalcoco And they have traffic lights at the new entrance to the housing estate on the main street. There was a queue of traffic coming into Rush out as far as the graveyard this evening. Absolutely nil planning done.

@Fingalcoco Why did you allow this when at the other end of the road near Tesco is also down to one lane for putting down cables.. no joint up thinking whatsoever. Disaster. And the residents aren’t very happy. No one got notified apparently

Farmers are working hard to put food on your tables everyday but especially this Christmas. Delighted to visit the farm of Anthony and Shane in Swords where they are flat to the mat getting Brussels Sprouts on the shelves for next week. A huge thanks to all our food producers.

What alternatives are there? You are jeopardising Irish food security for the future. We will be at the mercy of foreign exporters. You would rather increase our carbon footprint through importing vegetables from abroad, rather than looking inward at viable energy solutions!

@EamonRyan what's your plan for those in the horticulture sector that depend on natural gas to produce Irish Vegetables? You said in an interview yesterday that you do NOT support the Shannon LNG Project and there are alternatives. So where does that leave the likes of us?
