Something Lucasfilm has failed to understand is that the sequel trilogy successfully rebranded Star Wars as a Christmas-time franchise and no one wants to watch one of these in the summer anymore. (This was part of Solo’s problem too.)

@QuestionStan23 this is mattel though. they’re much more friendly to the idea of making action figures of women. look at their motu currently having she-ra and they always include female wrestlers in their wwe line.

The Mandalorian and Grogu wasn't my favorite Star Wars movie, but it was a pretty fun ride. The production design was phenomenal, as was the score and choreography. I really liked that Grogu was allowed to have growth and become an actual character. Also Rotta was funny

Rise of skywalker the funniest movie of all time. Finn spends the whole movie trying to make a confession of love, then the director said he wanted to tell her he has super powers. The hero and villain kiss at the end and then the company issued a statement that it was platonic

@BrettRedacted I don't disagree with the point, but to clarify, adjusted for inflation, Gone With The Wind is #1, Star Wars is #2, and The Force Awakens is #11 (sold about half as many domestic tickets as Gone With The Wind).

I hope this is true. I'd love to see SW tackle other genres again like we saw with Andor. Give us a romcom, give us a mystery, give us a crime film, give us a horror movie. I don't want them to totally abandon traditional SW, but I think this setting can support other genres

I never thought that sequel trilogy revisionism would be spearheaded by people getting really into TROS. I always thought it would revolve around TLJ and maybe TFA

The Rise of Skywalker is still the biggest narrative failure in this franchise, but goddamn, that movie actually felt like an event. It had scale (sometimes to a stupid degree), it had colour (mostly blue) and it had planets that felt otherworldly. They weren't good, but there were character arcs in it and despite the "Somehow Palpatine returned plot", it was not entirely without stakes. I absolutely hate TROS, but I can appreciate that they at least tried. It has the components of a movie. The Mandalorian and Grogu simply does not feel like a real film.
