If I have a house worth £10m and £0 in the bank, how do I pay this wealth tax? In bricks? Also if I'm not selling, who says it's worth £10m anyway? Is Zoopla now part of HMRC? What if I just say if I were to sell, I'd be willing to sell it for £100k? An asset is only worth what a buying and selling party can agree a deal on after all, hence why a lump of gold can be worth a quid one day and £100 the next. This is why we tax transactions. They're real and their value dmonstrable. Wealth is intangible and highly subjective

The mistake here is treating a survey of patriotic millionaires as a tax base. Of course some wealthy people will say they are happy to pay more. Many mean it. A civilised country should not be frightened of taxing wealth, especially when work is taxed more reliably than capital and inheritance. Here, the left has the better instinct. But instinct is not policy. The question is not whether a millionaire can be found to endorse higher taxes. The question is whether the tax is enforceable, durable, hard to avoid, and raises more than it destroys. That is where the cant begins. Britain does not need another moral performance in which politicians denounce wealth while leaving the lawyers, accountants and asset structures intact. Tax land. Tax unearned gains. Close carve outs. Stop pretending a Guardian friendly millionaire quote is a fiscal strategy. A civic state taxes by law, not sentiment.

Tomorrow is the King’s Speech. Since the last one, Labour has delivered change to improve lives, from renters’ rights and action on child poverty to safer streets, rail public ownership and Great British Energy. Much more still to do, but Labour is getting on with the job.

This is completely mad. Britain has no history of polygamy. It's been illegal to enter into a polygamous marriage in England since 1604. When people come to this country, they should abide by our norms. Allowing them not to and then giving them taxpayer money for it is mental.

No we don’t. There’s no need to rush that fight. Moses needs more time to develop. And more importantly, he definitely hasn’t earned a title shot yet. Beating a completely shot Dillian Whyte and Jermaine Franklin ain’t enough in my book. Moses should fight Jarrell Miller. Daniel should fight Agjaba or the winner of Torrez/Sanchez (if Kabayel is waiting for Usyk)

I was no Corbyn fan but he was a lifelong Eurosceptic and it was Starmer, as Deputy Leader, that was the architect of their ridiculous second referendum policy in 2019 that would have seen Labour renegotiate Brexit (e.g. offer BRINO where we stay in everything) and then campaign against their own deal in that 2nd referendum. He's a staunch Remainer and thinks the public are stupid

@GayoCaesar @Keir_Starmer I hadn't considered that his destructive policies might be intentionally designed to increase reliance on the EU. It is apparent that he, and those influencing him, show a clear disregard for the will of the British people.

Hope resides in our young people. But Brexit has held them back. They should be able to live, work and study in Europe, which is exactly what our Youth Experience Scheme will deliver. This is part of rebuilding a stronger relationship with Europe. That's the Labour choice.
