At least 15 cases of sexual assaults, including rape. Shot with rubber bullets at close range. Tens of people’s bones broken. While the world’s eye is trained on the suffering of our participants, we cannot emphasize enough that this is a mere glimpse of the brutality israel imposes daily on Palestinian hostages. Don’t let up. Statements of condemnation are not enough. This moment must be seized by people worldwide to apply the necessary pressure to end this colonial violence. Pressure officials. È inammissibile che questi manifestanti, fra cui molti cittadini italiani, vengano sottoposti a questo trattamento lesivo della dignità della persona. Il Governo italiano sta immediatamente compiendo, ai più alti livelli istituzionali, tutti i passi necessari per ottenere la liberazione immediata dei cittadini italiani coinvolti. L’Italia pretende inoltre le scuse per il trattamento riservato a questi manifestanti e per il totale disprezzo dimostrato nei confronti delle esplicite richieste del Governo italiano. Per questi motivi, il Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale convocherà immediatamente l’ambasciatore israeliano per chiedere chiarimenti formali su quanto accaduto.
Massive call out to my brave, beautiful & fearless friend Noa Avishag Schnall @NoaAvishag of the @gbsumudflotilla who yesterday had the courage, while zip-tied, to shout at Ben Gvir to his face that he was a "genocidal maniac," after which she was assaulted & beaten up by his henchmen. Following a global outcry she and her fellow activists have now arrived safely in Istanbul, severely bruised but unbowed. Yesterday was the one year anniversary of Anita Anand asking Israel to investigate itself, after the Israeli army shot at Canadian delegates in the occupied West Bank.
The abominable treatment of civilians aboard the flotilla, including that which is documented in footage shared by Itamar Ben-Gvir, is unacceptable. Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has directed officials to summon the Israeli ambassador to demand assurances regarding the safety and security of Canadians involved. Canada has already imposed strict sanctions on Mr. Ben-Gvir, including asset freezes and a travel ban, in response to his repeated incitement of violence. The protection of civilians and respect for human dignity must be upheld everywhere, at all times.
