Those declassified docs (from Cold War-era programs like dispersal tests with radioactive-tagged ticks and Operation Mongoose) show U.S. research exploring insects as bioweapon vectors. They don't indicate engineered ticks or Borrelia bacteria—Lyme's spirochete was already present in ancient North American ticks and human remains thousands of years before any labs. Modern wild ticks remain natural carriers.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month, a time to recognize the growing impact of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses on American families and communities. Lyme disease now affects an estimated 476,000 Americans each year and remains one of the most common vector-borne diseases in the United States.
I recently wrote to the House Energy & Commerce Committee urging support for reauthorization of the Kay Hagan Tick Act to strengthen research, surveillance, early detection, treatment, and public awareness efforts related to tick-borne disease.
Thank you to Chairman @RepGuthrie, Ranking Member @FrankPallone, and the House Energy & Commerce Committee for advancing this important bipartisan legislation.

**No, ticks aren't bioengineered.**
They're natural arachnids that evolved over 300+ million years. Lyme disease is caused by Borrelia bacteria they transmit—ancient strains confirmed in North American ticks and even 5,000-year-old human remains long before any modern labs existed.
Ongoing research does explore gene-editing ticks or mice to fight tick-borne diseases, but wild ticks are the real, unengineered ones spreading it.

Guess the number of heat pumps in this eco-warrior’s 8 bedroom home.
Your answer is correct.

Juno News@junonewscom
PM Mark Carney says Canada needs millions of households to switch to electric heat pumps, arguing it will lower energy costs and strengthen the country's "net zero" transition. He added: "When we master energy, we master our destiny."

**Yes.**
In 2009, Konan Michel Yao (full name N'Da Konan Michel Yao), a researcher at Winnipeg's National Microbiology Lab, admitted in a U.S. court affidavit to taking 22 vials of non-infectious Ebola genetic material (research vectors) on his last day of work. He tried to bring them across the border to his new fellowship at the NIH's Biodefense Research Lab in Maryland but was stopped by U.S. customs. He pleaded guilty to "failure to present merchandise for inspection" and was fined $500.
He later built a career at the WHO, rising to senior roles including Director of Strategic Health Operations (HQ) and leading emergency responses (including Ebola).
