The Somerset Patriots scored 13 runs tonight and Anthony Volpe didn’t get a single hit. He currently has a .646 OPS in the minor league this year. There’s no way in hell he’s coming anywhere near the Bronx soon.

Ben Rice is a legit superstar. The Yankees continue to be the class of professional sports. The narrative that they just pay for all the best players is absolute garbage. They develop talent EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

@JLas43_ Yeah, rushing Lombard seems like a great idea. That didn’t fair at all with Volpe. I’m not sure the 20 games this year in AA proves his bat is real. There were tons of questions coming into the year. Not sure after 20 games we can say all questions answered.

When Caballero inevitably falls off, Lombard Jr should be about ready. He’s already proven in AA which is the more talent-rich level that his bat is real. Sticking him at 3B just to cater to Volpe is wasting his elite instincts/athleticism at the more important position at SS.

If the Yankees actually option Volpe to Triple-A on Monday once his rehab clock is up, it'll be the most pleasantly surprised I've been by an organizational decision in quite a while. Believe it when I see it, but the fact we're even talking about it as a possibility would've been pretty incomprehensible a year ago. Play the best baseball players!

The Yankees don’t HAVE TO fit Volpe back into the mix. There’s no need to try and fit a square peg into a round hole. Volpe isn’t entitled to anything. He doesn’t “deserve” anything. Shortstop is not guaranteed to be his. And when Caballero falls off, Lombard Jr should take over.
