The goal of @POTUS Executive Order was to protect women’s sports, Olympic sports, and sports at smaller schools.
Respect @slmandel’s take here, but these buyouts are a prime example of the unsustainable financial differential in college sports - the growing separation between the “haves” and the “have nots”.
Small Schools, Olympic Sports, and women’s sports are definitely the “have nots”. Average budget deficit in FBS is $20MM/year/school, and non-revenue sports are being cut to keep up in the only two sports that make money (football and men’s basketball).
Changes have to be made to make sure that our college sports system doesn’t turn into a small group of Big Schools that just play football and men’s basketball. Women, Olympians, and Small Schools matter.
