The CEO of ESAK, @GeorgeAluru participated in the recently concluded 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 in Lisbon, marking the first-ever GAP organized by @GWECGlobalWind . This summit united various associations to exchange best practices, enhance regional networking, and align on critical advocacy initiatives to tackle shared challenges. With a focus on issues like grids, permitting, social acceptance, misinformation, and finance, the GAP Summit served as a valuable platform for setting governance and strategic priorities. 𝑲𝒆𝒚 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔:- 🪶Wind has moved from a hobby of early enthusiasts to a key player in energy supply. Wind plays a significant role in solving today's needs across the different markets 🪶The industry has come a long way from the 70s. Globally, we are at TW levels and growing as a wind sector 🪶Different approaches have been taken for auctions across the world, with the Philippines, Vietnam, and Japan being interesting case studies 🪶There is a whole team across the world working to further wind 🪶The industry must boldly tell its story of impact in the wake of changing regulatory regimes Additionally, ESAK was recognized as a regional champion for its significant contributions to advancing wind energy.💡🌍🌬️⚡️🤝

Last week, ESAK CEO @GeorgeAluru joined our member @LTWPOfficial in the launch of their sustainability report. LTWP produced 11.04% of Kenya’s electricity in 2023 from wind energy. "Other than contributing significantly to power generation in Kenya, the wind farm has a big footprint in the area in education, infrastructure, environmental conservation, healthcare, and employment among others."- @GeorgeAluru Find the report here: lnkd.in/dSgA5H7U

Are you an early to mid-career professional, graduate, or student in the fields listed below and would like to grow in the energy sector? Here's a chance to join a pool of like-minded junior experts in the ESAK #STEP_UP 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦. The program is an initiative to address the skills mismatch challenge between graduates from various tertiary institutions and the labor market cognizant that the power sector requires a diverse set of skills and not just the traditional technical engineering skills. This program seeks to wholesomely empower professionals from different fields to support the expected transition of the electricity sector. Send your CV to hr@esa-k.org ...UPskill!

Worth noting is that we have a new gross energy demand of 40912MWh recorded on 31st July 2024. Previous peak energy was 40541MWh recorded on 17th July. Power demand grows once again in July.
Dr. Eng. John Mativo CP³P@MativoMJohn

We recorded a New Peak Demand of 2228.11MW and a New Peak Energy of 40,541MWh on Wednesday 17th July 2024 Captive power is estimated at 500MW. With increase in power reliable, some customers with captive power will switch to grid necessitating need for grid expansion.

Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority
The Authority in line with Section 162 of The Energy Act, 2019 has developed The Energy (Net-Metering) Regulations, 2024 applicable to renewable energy technologies with an installed capacity of less than 1 MW. The gazetted regulations enable electricity consumers who generate their own power to supply electricity to the grid during over-production and be compensated for or use the credited energy during other times. Accordingly, a licensee shall enter into a net-metering arrangement with consumers on a first come first served, and non-discriminatory basis, subject to the provisions of these Regulations. The installed capacity for domestic customers shall not exceed 4 kW for single-phase supply and 10 kW for three-phase supply; commercial and industrial customers shall not exceed 1 MW; and be capped at the maximum load demand in kW achieved in the twelve months preceding the application for net metering. Check out the regulations mentioned above here>> epra.go.ke/downloads/ For more information contact us at 0709 336 000 or email info@epra.go.ke ^BO

𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: The first qualification is excess energy from a renewable source, but it must not exceed 1MW. You also do not need a license from EPRA, but rather, an agreement with the distribution or retail licensee.

Upon approval, the net metering agreement is valid for 5 years. In case of change of user to a new owner or occupier, the agreement will run for the remainder of the 5-year term. ̳1̳s̳t̳ ̳A̳u̳g̳u̳s̳t̳ ̳|̳|̳ ̳̳6̳:̳3̳0̳p̳m̳ ̳|̳|̳ ̳̳L̳i̳n̳k̳e̳d̳I̳n̳ ̳&̳ ̳T̳w̳i̳t̳t̳e̳r̳ ̳L̳i̳v̳e̳ ̳

There are several ways the consumer is set to benefit from net metering. One such benefit is credit for units of electrical energy exported to the licensee. However, any unused credits shall be forfeited at the end of the licensee’s financial year.

Are you a consumer with your own generation? Is it excess at times? The regulations facilitate consumers to store excess power in the grid and be able to use it in their time of need. ̳1̳s̳t̳ ̳A̳u̳g̳u̳s̳t̳ ̳|̳|̳ ̳6̳:̳3̳0̳p̳m̳ ̳E̳A̳T̳ ̳|̳|̳ ̳̳L̳i̳n̳k̳e̳d̳I̳n̳ ̳&̳ ̳T̳w̳i̳t̳t̳e̳r̳
