It's said that 80% of Americans think about writing a book at some point in their lives. Often memoirs. If you're making it happen, or wish you could, check out this new newsletter linkedin.com/pulse/yes-real…

@johnarnold Split your intended cash in two, and help him open both accounts. Tell him he can't move money back and forth, but he can test each approach with vigor. Make a $10,000 side bet that by the 4th of July, only one account will survive. Big learnings no matter what

Teenage son wants to open an investment account. Do I steer him toward a Fidelity Youth Account, which promotes long-term equity investing, or Robinhood, which pushes day trading, same-day options, and sports betting? hmmm....

@coldhealing Choosing the right major is only 40% of making college work for you. The big payoff is the network you (can) build. Go to profs' office hours. Get access to alumni events. Get out of your dorm room and make friends. Those contacts can open doors for the first job & many more.

If you were advising a widely-talented 17yo today who wanted the safest path to the upper middle class what college major would you recommend? I genuinely don't know. The world is changing a lot. It's probably not computer science. Maybe it's mechanical engineering or math?

@eriktorenberg There's lots of research already out there in the population-biology field (mice, deer, whales, etc.) about boom-bust-recovery. We're at a normal stage of a normal process. Populations shrink when key resources are overtaxed. Growth eventually resumes from a saner base.

Nothing has worked in fixing birth rates. Financial incentives didn’t work (Hungary), Nordic socialism didn’t work (Scandinavia), restricting women’s rights didn’t work (Iran), totalitarianism didn’t work (North Korea), doing nothing didn’t work (Latin America). What will work?

@SirActionSlacks Also worth noting is TI-10, with the ethereal sense of playing in that big Romanian stadium with piped-in artificial crowd noise and not a single genuine human fan. Is it coincidence that Team Spirit won the whole thing?? I don't think so!

@TheRealDanSaedi Horrible adverse selection here. Stats say ~6% of males and 4.5% of females aged 75 die within the next year. Many know who they are! (Advanced cancer, etc.) If all of them say yes, while healthier people say no, you've squandered cash. No savings at all.

I still don’t understand why no one is taking the social security buyout idea seriously. Offer every new retiree and anyone under the age of 75 $250K lump sum tax free. If 10M people take it, it’ll reduce the deficit by $5T over a decade.

It's never easy for nonprofits — big or small — to build the high-quality governing boards that they deserve. But what if America's top business schools tried harder to prepare new generations of MBAs for such service? @GeorgeAnders reports: phlnthrp.com/3VM9bGX

What are the most popular classes for MBAs these days? Yes, "Path to Power" and "VC Finance" still pull them in. But this maverick class at @KelloggSchool connects students with nonprofits in need. It's oversubscribed 4:1. philanthropy.com/article/as-non…

@polo_man404 42 for sure, in terms of spending a little time, having a meal, saying hello to people, etc. Perhaps three or four more if you count passing through the airports on the way to somewhere else. It's quite a list.

🎁 That's a wrap. Not just on the presidential campaign, but also my next book. I just sent it off to my editor at @simonschuster. 80,000+ words. Some wrap up work to come in the next few weeks and then months of editing pre-sale and then marketing. Tentative on-sale date: 9/9/25

@HarrisFanaroff We've been there, too. My wife and I recall it as "the year of 30% tips." It helped to find a Vietnamese joint whose owner liked little kids. She'd sometimes pick up our little one for a minute or two so that my wife and I could gulp down some food. The 30% tips did help

~18 month old boy toddlers at a restaurant. He screams the second we put him in a booster seat or high chair. We have 567,328 toys and he throws them all. Won’t sit for a book. We go on 5 walks before the food comes. Do people just stop going out to restaurants? Someone give me something that worked for them.

@cfishman Quite something! But, doing simple math, the 2027 class data adds up to 109%. The 2028 data adds up to 100%. I realize this is MIT, so there's surely an explanation that makes sense. Any idea what it might be?

MIT is 1st highly selective university to release stas on its freshman class since US SupCt banned affirmation action in college admissions. Diversity tanks. Class of 2027 admits v. 2028 Black: 15% —> 5% Hispanic: 16% —> 11% White: 38% —> 37% Asian: 40% —> 47% —>
