To Understand #TheGreatNicobarProject, watch Kunal Kamra's 22-minute video, "GoodBye Nicobar." The Great Nicobar Project will destroy not just 850,000 trees, but approximately 10 million. The government's sole aim is to benefit Adani.

Rahul Gandhi just walked through the forest Modi wants to flatten. Here’s what won’t make it to the press release: → Govt told Parliament 8.65 lakh trees would be felled. Scientists say the actual number is 1 CRORE+ → Adani Group filed an official expression of interest to build the Great Nicobar port → ANIIDCO literally self-certified its own environmental clearance; its MD was simultaneously the Environment & Forests Secretary of the islands → The Chief Secretary who chairs ANIIDCO’s board was also on the committee investigating complaints against the project → Coastal maps were quietly reclassified from CRZ-1A (prohibited) → CRZ-B (permitted) to make the port “legal”; with zero public disclosure of the methodology → The Nicobarese tribes withdrew their consent in 2022, citing unsettled forest rights. The project moved forward anyway This is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Two national parks. The last home of the Shompen people; all 200 of them. And the government is bulldozing it for a port that Adani wants to run. Rahul Gandhi is right. This isn’t a project. It’s a heist in the tricolour’s clothing.

I travelled through Great Nicobar today. These are the most extraordinary forests I have ever seen in my life. Trees older than memory. Forests that took generations to grow. The people on this island are equally beautiful - both the adivasi communities and the settlers - but they are being robbed of what is rightfully theirs. The government calls what it is doing here a “Project.” What I have seen is not a project. It is millions of trees marked for the axe. It is 160 square kilometres of rainforest condemned to die. It is communities that have been ignored while their homes have been snatched away. This is not development. This is destruction dressed in development’s language. So I will say it plainly, and I will keep saying it: what is being done in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and gravest crimes against this country’s natural and tribal heritage in our lifetime. It must be stopped. And it can be stopped - if Indians choose to see what I have seen.

The “great nicobar” development project include -A thermal power plant that will produce coal ash -Data centre that will guzzle water and emit heat in sensitive bio diverse zone -Gouge corals and plant them in other places (no joke, the doc state it) -Take over the only nesting site and the water route that leads to it of the leather back turtles -Pave sea fronts with concrete that are nests of an amazing native bird - megapod -chop off the most unique to this island of million years old canopy trees. One has to be depraved to be destroying this most sensitive bio diversity hotspot for resorts, data centre and what not. The politics for environmental protection has to rise up and that’s why happy to see him talking about it. @RahulGandhi

Open letter to @svembu -- Dear Sir, Amongst the trickle of those who come back to India - most do it for personal reasons. Some miss their family (others want to get away from them) Some miss the convenience of house helps (others we are told, fall in love with 10 minute delivery & UPI payments) In the 2000's there was a time when post liberalisation euphoria and India's rapid economic climb - encouraged people to come back to their motherland. That that was the time when folks came back with a missionary zeal, the concept of 'reverse brain drain' had started to take root...now India is the global leader of exporting skilled labour & talent. It seems that our political leadership takes inspiration from China's political authoritarianism - but not what it did to become an economic powerhouse. China did not beg folks to come back to motherland - it launched the Thousand Talents Plan - incentivising the best and brightest to come back home. We haven't tried yet. Even your plea to Indians abroad - is trying to play on the fears to NRIs that they will get trapped in the battle between the 'hard right' & 'woke left' .... so the reason for coming back to India is not growth / opportunity / better life / healthier environment - but escaping persecution and xenophobia that is increasing. Still Indians are choosing to stay back. (Why?) You spoke a lot about respect & I agree that global respect today comes from a nation's technological prowess. The question that you need to ask is - why is it - that despite 'producing sufficient brain power to achieve that prowess' we are nowhere on the technological horizon? Do have the courage to ask why has the Govt allowed the systematic decay of scientific thinking & R&D?? Forget getting talent back from America tomorrow... are we doing anything to stop the fleeing of talent abroad today? Where is the missionary zeal of the Govt in that?? Or the focus is ripping the social fabric more and getting more votes??? Finally about the respect that India always had abroad. That was not because of our nuclear bombs, our market size or chest thumping leaders - Indians ALWAYS got the respect because of our cultured civilisational values, non violent attitude, proclivity for hard work & family values. You would have to agree Sridhar, that we are literally abandoning all this - while chasing some some false bravado, as if this is a Bollywood movie. In the real world - unless and until we introspect where we went wrong, all this begging and pleading will be of no use & that brain drain will only keep increasing. // PS - The introspection should begin at home.

Open letter to Indians in America. -- Dear brothers and sisters from Bharat: Like I did 37 years ago, you arrived in America with no money but with a good education and cultural heritage from Bharat. You achieved outstanding success. America was good to us. For that we must remain grateful - gratitude is our Bharatiya way. Yet today, a significant number of Americans, may be not the majority but not too far from it either, believe that Indians "take away" American jobs and our success in America was unfairly earned. You may think the next election will fix this, but your choice would be between people who hate our Bharatiya civilisation and people who hate civilisation itself. That is the "hard right" vs "woke left" battle. You are mere bystanders to that conflict. Meanwhile there is one thing that is true now and will be true in the future: the respect Indians command world-wide will substantially depend on the fortunes of India herself. If India remains poor, the woke left will give us moral lectures with pity and the hard right, different moral lectures with scorn ("hellhole") and we must not confuse either with respect. Respect in today's world, along with prosperity and security, comes from one source: a nation's technological prowess. India produces sufficient brain power to achieve that prowess but alas we exported so much of that talent, particularly to America. As we develop that prowess in India, our civilisational strength will assert itself. As difficult as it is for many of you to contemplate this, please come back home. Bharat Mata needs your talent. Our vast youthful population needs the technology leadership you gained over the years to guide them towards prosperity. Let's do it with a missionary zeal. Respectfully Sridhar Vembu

All religions oppress women, the degree varies but they all do. Women suffer the most in a dictatorship. But more than two things can be true too. While I don't understand how anyone can be celebrating the assassination of leaders of sovereign nations by another nation, we cannot ignore the fact that the same leader was a dictator and his strict Islamic regime oppressed women. Just weird to celebrate a man because he supported Palestine. He doesn't get a free pass because he did that. Things are not black and white and more nuanced.

I still remember my time in Netaji Nagar, South Delhi. It was the early 2000s. Three of us Northeastern women professionals  shared a rented flat. We were working, independent, trying to build our careers in the capital like thousands of other young people. I also had a dog. A stray who found us and decided we were his people. We called him Dylan. One day, Dylan slipped outside without his leash for a few seconds. Before I could react, a neighbour stopped his car outside our house. I had seen him around. I assumed he was decent. He rolled down his window and said, “Keep your dog tied. We know what all goes on inside this house.” And then he drove off. I stood there, frozen. It wasn’t about the dog. It wasn’t about the leash. It was about three Northeastern women living together in South Delhi. The insinuation was clear. The judgement was automatic. The racism was casual. I didn’t shout back. Shock does that to you. It silences you in the moment and then replays itself in your head for years. That was more than 20 years ago. And here we are again. Three Arunachali women were harassed over something as trivial as dust falling after an AC repair. They were allegedly called 'massage waalis' etc., etc. The script hasn’t changed. Just the decade. We have seen this before. We saw it in the tragic death of Nido Tania and, again, recentlt Angel Chakma in Dehradun after racial slurs and assault. We have seen it in countless cities. And I am certain we have not seen half of it, because so much goes unreported. Twenty years later, the same language. The same suspicion. The same moral policing. The same othering. Sometimes people say, “You’re overreacting.” But this is not a one-off. It is a pattern. I have now lived in Australia for over 15 years. Have I seen racism here? Of course, no society is perfect. But I can say honestly, I do not experience the frequency and brazenness of racial stereotyping here the way I did in Delhi as a Northeastern woman. Which is why I find it ironic when some Indians living abroad are quick to label Australia as deeply racist, while refusing to examine the prejudice that exists within our own society. We cannot demand dignity globally and deny it locally. Diversity conversations cannot just be corporate slogans. Inclusion cannot just be panel discussions. It has to begin in neighbourhoods, in apartment blocks, in the language we use for women who look different from us. Sometimes it begins with something as small as a dog named Dylan. And sometimes it begins with finally admitting that this is not oversensitivity. It is lived experience. Twenty years is a long time. How many more decades will it take before these stories stop repeating? #racism #NorthEast #MalviyaNagar #ArunachalPradesh

Where’s the women’s commission? Or are they only to take action against people of certain parties?!
Rajesh Griglani@griglani

I am utterly aghast, ashamed, and heartbroken watching this video from the Rajasthan Assembly. Here we have Bahadur Singh Koli, a BJP MLA, shamelessly spewing sexist venom during a budget debate-comparing the BJP's budget to the "birth of a boy" that's "always useful," while dismissing the Congress's as the "birth of a girl," implying it's worthless and the reason they're in opposition. What kind of regressive, patriarchal poison is this? In 2026, when we're supposed to be building a progressive India, elected representatives from the ruling BJP-NDA alliance are openly degrading women and girls on the floor of the house! This isn't just a slip of the tongue; it's a window into the deep-seated misogyny and gender bias that plagues our government. No wonder India's sex ratio continues to plummet-mindsets like this fuel female foeticide, discrimination, and violence against women. How many more girls must suffer because of such toxic "Manuwadi" ideology that treats daughters as burdens and sons as assets? It's sickening, and it makes my blood boil. I fail to understand: Why do women in India still vote for these scums? Sisters, mothers, daughters—you make up half our population, yet you empower parties that belittle you at every turn. Is it fear? Conditioning? False promises? Wake up! Your vote is your power; don't hand it to those who see you as second-class. And men-every single one of you was born from a woman. Your mothers carried you, nurtured you, sacrificed for you. How can you support a Manuwadi party like the BJP that peddles this garbage? Are you blind to the hypocrisy? These rascals, these Male Chauvinist Pigs (MCPs) in suits, sit in power because of your votes too. Until we throw these misogynists out of government—MLAs, MPs, the whole NDA cabal—we'll never achieve true equality, liberty, or justice in this country. This video isn't an isolated incident; it's symptomatic of a larger rot. We've seen BJP leaders make derogatory remarks about women time and again—from "item girls" slurs to victim-blaming in rape cases. Enough is enough! Let's demand accountability. Tag your representatives, share this far and wide, and vow to vote for change. Women deserve respect, not ridicule. India deserves better. @RahulGandhi @priyankagandhi @kharge @kcvenugopalmp @MukulWasnik @JitendraSAlwar @girishgoaINC @AlankarSawai @vidyarthee @PratishthaINC @LambaAlka @SupriyaShrinate @NayakRagini @RichaChadha @sonalpateldatta @MahilaCongress @pravchak @KRajuINC @ShayarImran @tarinid #MisogynyInPolitics #BJPFailsWomen #GenderEqualityNow #ThrowOutTheMCPs #ManuwadiExposed #RajasthanAssembly #VoteWisely

Aswini U'Krishnan@hungryypassport

Long read Sexual assault is not something new to any of us especially women in India. No one is safe, not even children. I have been travelling by public transport since 6th grade and I can’t even count the number of times this has happened to me and to people around me. Did I realise it as a child? Yes Did I always react? No Because I didn’t know what I was supposed to do honestly!!! Freezing or running away is what usually happens and next day we continue to live with it. As I grew up, I realised it wasn’t just me most women and men have gone through this! Did we have the option to stop using public transport and run away from perverts? No we didn’t. We had to and still have to LIVE with it. I was molested by a distant relative multiple times as a child and in my teens. I didn’t know what to do. I finally mustered the courage to tell someone in my family, only to hear “Oh he is a nice person. Ninak thonniyadhavum, He is a maanyan and he has two girl children, angane onnum cheyyilla” I stood there not knowing what to do!! The molester still walks free because my family didn’t want to believe ME (a case with most of us) And now we are talking about random strangers in public transport with families? I honestly don’t give a fuck or empathise with you whether you have a family or not is not my problem! I’m here dealing with my traumas, my past, that’s it!!! All this trauma stays for life. Even today, every time I board a bus or a train, I am scared, thinking who it’s going to be, because I don’t know it could be any random stranger around me. (And yes they all have families) So It’s always YES, all men because I don’t know which one of you is a potential molester, and I am afraid to walk around until I find a safe space in you!!! Now we have an incident, people are so quick to give clean chit just because the video doesn’t show anything clearly to them and the man is dead now. Sooo, he is innocent! I see it differently it’s the same thing many of us have experienced in buses and trains and Idk what makes most of you all feel that he dint do anything! It’s a learnt technique men do, all this creepy stuff and we have seen it enough! Anyway Leaving that aside, the reels, videos, memes, and creepy statements you men and some women are creating are vile, disgusting, and clearly shows what you really care about!!! Do you care For Deepak?? NO You don’t care about him or his life. All you care about is yourselves and how you men never miss a chance to blame women, display your misogyny, and clown yourselves 🤡🤡🤡🤡 Why didn’t you all create this kind of outrage earlier? Because only when the person on the opposite side is a woman you react and show your anger!!!!!! A chance to showcase your misogony again! Finally let me make it clear. If you all want to back each other and support your c*s men friends in having a safe place, start by calling OUT MEN first, show your anger, show this outrage, show this clownism. Anyway you all don’t care about other genders!!! So we will deal with it! Now incels don’t come at me. I’m not here for anyone’s validation, and I genuinely don’t give a FUCK!!! Thanks!
