🌍📍 The first-ever demarcation of an international boundary on a lake in Africa was completed at #LakeKariba, where the 1⃣6⃣th #AfricanBorderDay will be celebrated tomorrow under the theme, "Ensuring Sustainable Water Supply and Safe Sanitation Systems to achieve the goals of #Agenda2063." 🗓️ On 12 July 2026, the Republics of 🇿🇲 #Zambia and 🇿🇼 #Zimbabwe successfully completed the first phase of the #LakeKariba boundary demarcation exercise, marking the first-ever demarcation of an international boundary on a lake in #Africa. 🌊🗺️ 🤝 Led by the African Union Border Programme (#AUBP), a flagship programme of the @_AfricanUnion Commission, in collaboration with @GIZAfricanUnion, this milestone reflects Africa’s commitment to peaceful border governance, effective border delimitation and demarcation, and strengthened cross-border cooperation. 🌍🕊️ 💧 Created by the damming of the Zambezi River, #LakeKariba now stands as a symbol of how shared natural resources can unite neighbouring states through dialogue, partnership, and mutual trust. 🤲 🌉 This achievement reinforces the @_AfricanUnion’s vision of transforming borders into bridges of peace, integration, and sustainable development. #BorderGovernance #CrossBorderCooperation #SilencingTheGuns

🌍Today, @AUC_PAPS, in partnership with the Australian Embassy in Ethiopia and @UNOAU_, convened the Roundtable Dialogue on Climate, Peace and Security in Africa in Addis Ababa, 🇪🇹, bringing together representatives from the AUC, AU Member States, @UN agencies, #COP Presidencies, partners, think tanks, civil society and academia. The Dialogue seeks to deepen shared understanding of climate, peace and security (#CPS) dynamics, take stock of emerging African responses, and identify practical entry points for joint advocacy, partnerships and implementation support in the lead-up to #COP31 and #COP32. Expected outcomes include strengthened AU–UN cooperation, enhanced partnerships, and practical follow-up towards advancing Africa-led #CPS priorities. Opening the Dialogue, Dr @pipattuquayefio, Climate, Peace and Security Adviser at the @_AfricanUnion, underscored: "Climate change does not, in and of itself, cause insecurity. H.E. Evariste Ndayishimiye (@GeneralNeva), President of the Republic of Burundi and Chairperson of the @_AfricanUnion, convened a high-level meeting of Heads of State and Government, the African Union Commission, @AfricaCDC, the @WHO, Regional Economic Communities and partners to strengthen political commitment to the ongoing Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. The meeting mobilized US$910 million in pledges, including US$80 million committed by Member States. ----- Son Excellence Évariste Ndayishimiye, Président de la République du Burundi et Président en exercice de l’Union africaine, a convoqué une réunion de haut niveau réunissant les Chefs d’État et de Gouvernement, la Commission de l’Union africaine, Africa CDC, l’Organisation mondiale de la Santé (OMS), les Communautés économiques régionales et les partenaires afin de renforcer l’engagement politique en faveur de la riposte en cours à l’épidémie d’Ebola Bundibugyo en République démocratique du Congo et en Ouganda. Cette réunion a permis de mobiliser 910 millions de dollars américains de promesses de financement, dont 80 millions de dollars américains engagés par les États membres.
