@NicL1904 Habe mir jetzt extra ein Buch aus 1980 bestellt. Und war dann doch überrascht, dass dort schon die Kondensstreifen erwähnt sind und Fotos von „Ciruswolken“ und Wolkenformationen, die ich als unnatürlich empfinde. Was bedeutet das? Geht das Treiben am Himmel schon so lange?

At this point I‘m actually questioning if all the meteor sightings lately are just a coincidence or if Earth is traversing some kind of unknown debris field. Fragments have been recovered in both the US and Germany, so hopefully we‘ll have an answer soon.

FIREBALL OVER CALIFORNIA! A fireball blazed across the sky on March 22, at 8:19 PM Pacific Daylight Time as seen from California, Nevada, and Arizona. @Player20N00B Yep, large hail and sometimes even tornadoes. Extreme CAPE from the Persian Gulf can also feed MCSs with some insane lightning frequencies

This may seem crazy anomalous at first, but the Arabian peninsula and adjacent areas see potent setups quite regularly, especially around this time of year. Obv not comparable to the US, but I feel like it’s one of the more underrated regions for severe weather on our planet.

While the weather is currently on the quieter side here in the CONUS, parts of the Middle East may experience a rare, high-end (even by our standards) severe weather setup on Thursday. A closed, compact and powerful upper trough will move across the region, with the exit region situated over parts is Saudi, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and UAE. Seasonally deep moisture will be present, with high instability likely. Some capping may be present, which could limit storm development, but could be just weak enough to promote more isolated supercellular storms, capable of all severe hazards. If storms form, a significant severe weather/tornado event may ensue across parts of the region, mainly closer to the coastal regions.

OTD in 2013, a small but destructive tornado outbreak affected Victoria and New South Wales, Australia. Seven tornadoes touched down, the strongest of which was an EF-4 that caused considerable damage near Mulwala/Cobram. An EF-3 also struck near Tamleugh. 80 people were injured.

The parent supercell also produced a distinct swath of very large to giant hail. Debris fallout covered large areas, leaving people puzzled as it started raining branches, seemingly out of nowhere, over 50 miles away. Hallmarks of an extreme, high-end tornado.

This phenomenon is also mentioned in the survey of the 1764 Woldegk tornado. Debris fallout continued in „completely calm conditions“ after the tornado had lifted, including a „branch, as thick as a man’s arm, (…) covered all over with ice as thick as a finger“ near Galenbeck.

@TornadoWIS I‘d estimate that 50% if not the majority of significant tornadoes here in Europe occur with high shear/low CAPE setups. Forecasting tornadoes is actually very different here compared to America.
We get Sigtors with 200 CAPE or less every year. It’s all about the shear.

To be fair, regarding which scenario historically is more conducive for significant tornadoes, I would bet my house on high shear/low CAPE being the answer.
However, high enough CAPE values, as seen in the past, can totally override non-existent wind profiles. Tough one tbh.

A Mediterranean tropical-like cyclone making landfall in NE Libya, somewhere not too far from Benghazi. That definitely rings a bell. A very alarming bell…

This swirling low-pressure storm is very nearly a Medicane, or Mediterranean tropical-like cyclone, and she could be on a trajectory to make landfall into the deserts of northern Libya soon. Notice the huge plume of dust on the eastern side of the storm getting pulled out to sea by the counter-clockwise circulation.
