Highly recommend Encyclopedia Brown for younger kids to avoid murder/adultery type themes not appropriate for a younger audience. It’s also short stories structure so you can narrow the lesson to work on detailed close reading to figure out the mystery. The language is a little dated so it works great for vocabulary building as well.

I read that encouraging kids to read mystery novels naturally sets them up to read more deeply -- because you have to in order to figure it out. I thought that was good advice. Gonna get my kids some Agatha Christie

@PegasiRising I’d just like to point out that on Pi Day, you posted your 314th post. Well played, LCA. I know you’ve been working toward this for a while. You clearly care a lot. 🫶🏻

When students read whole books together over time, something interesting happens. They start referencing earlier stories when discussing new ones. Text-to-text connections grow naturally when students have real reading experiences to draw from.

I predict the fastest way to removing one-to-one digital devices in K-12 will be legislation (it'll be red states 1st) that allows parents to opt out. Once a small number of students in a classroom/school/district require analog curriculum & pedagogical tools, the scale will tip.

@gotrice2024 At 3 years old, & for a couple years later, the right way to avoid this situation is to ensure the child cannot open the door to anyone. This “lesson,” while far more effective than trying to get a preschooler to understand, has a high likelihood of lasting trauma. I would never.

This woman has been trying to teach her 3 year old boy to never open the door for strangers, she has tried several different methods, none of which have worked. So she decided to do the scared straight method by having a stranger pretend to take him. Don’t feel she went too far considering he only 3 years old?

@christress Were we meant to like O’Leary in the movie? Seems well cast. Least of their problems this week. How Chalamet responds remains to be seen (Mexico trip, good timing or…). Safdie problem didn’t happen on Marty Supreme set. Unfair to drag down everyone involved until we know more.

@DallasAptGP @NeilShenvi At a uni where I worked, book store sold out during finals week in fall ‘24. Haven’t heard much since. If the attempted comeback didn’t stick, my guess is profs realized quickly that students’ work is illegible because we abandoned handwriting for tech long ago. 💻🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨

As an 11th grade teacher, I've had to give my students guidelines about the ethical use of AI. Here's an easy rule of thumb: If it would be cheating to have a human do it for you, it's cheating to use AI to do it for you. Proof-reading: ok Brainstorming: ok 1/

@GeriKipp @PegasiRising 😂 Just like their “first ever newsletter,” “first ever Greek night.” Classic LCA. Zero institutional knowledge and constant re-inventing the wheel. 💀

Remember when we divided the kids into houses, & we put the littlest K-3 kids in Persia because they weren’t really part of the school (unlike the big kids who we put in Greek houses). Persia was our inside joke & a way for us to other the littles. Happy Persian Revolution! 🇮🇷

Imagine being able to tell your kids you were there when the Roman helmet guy cyber bullied Iran into changing their name back to Persia. What a time to be alive

@PegasiRising 😂 Good times! And then we tried to improve the house system, dividing kids across cohorts so they could bond with older & younger kids in healthy competition, & y’all were like “nah, we’re good.” And then the whole house system fizzled and now no one remembers it! Classic LCA.

Pinpointed my deepest rage induced by education. Witnessing the apathy & low standards my kids have LEARNED from school’s low standards, low expectations, & inflated rewards for effort & output. Short of homeschool, it’s nearly impossible to combat. Academically speaking.

Hey, @X & @elonmusk, how does one report a hacked account? Doesn’t seem to be an option/easy way to report account I’ve been following for years that suddenly, upon reaching 10K followers, starts spamming with Crypto posts & Tesla bullshit. With comments off. Please advise.

MARTY SUPREME is a neo-screwball masterpiece that brilliantly satirizes America’s obsession with “winning.” I audibly gasped about half a dozen times. Chalamet is note perfect.

@chlmtxcx Amazing shot. I’ve seen the file twice, and this is THE facial expression of the movie. So much wrapped up in this exact moment, IMO.
