After tense negotiations, months of searching, hounding down options, you manage to get a chance at a Heavy Mech type for your Periphery State. Do you go with the mobile Quickdraw, the well armored Thunderbolt, the long range Bombardier, or the anti-air Rifleman? Choose wisely.

@Ganglosaxonnne @RdHdSteppeson The gas is particles. Thinking your getting things mixed up. "The Public-class could also carry beam diffusion missiles in place of anti-ship ordnance. These missiles contain particles which when dispersed formed a "curtain" which diffused beam attacks."

The Existence of the Laser-Inhibiting Arrow Missiles, (Pg 356 of TacOps) which use a special gas to diffuse laser beams, only adds credence to my claim that the Beam Rifle from Gundam is just a Medium Laser. Because you know who else had beam diffusing gas?

@AriFleischer IDK, i don't remember seeing Obama calling people names, threatening people with execution and treating our foreign allies like dogshit.

This is another example showing how Barack Obama is one of the most divisive figures in American politics today. So many of our divisions were caused by the smug, demeaning and narrow-minded way he treats his opponents. Here, he pretends to not know the truth about the would-be assassin, although the facts of his left wing views were public hours before Obama’s tweet. It’s classic Obama - pretend to be conciliatory while he is the one who creates the divide. You would hope that Obama would condemn the left after the left tries to kill a President. But that’s too much to ask. Once again, Obama proves himself to be a classless divider of our country.
Barack Obama@BarackObama

Although we don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night's shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it’s incumbent upon all us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy. It’s also a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice that U.S. Secret Service Agents show every day. I’m grateful to them – and thankful that the agent who was shot is going to be okay.

@kukuruyo Most likely a 19 or 18 because he's charisma is that. Still probably succeeds because a dc check to ask someone to dance is around 15.

I don't care, and i don't think almost anybody in the planet cares. It's probably the rule less applied in the history of rules. In 25 years playing regularly i haven't seen even a single DM who doesn't make Nat 20s be either a success or at the very least; if it's something truly impossible; to derive into an incredibly good outcome It's just simply funnier that way
Nerdcognito@Nerdcognito

You're the DM? Have you broken a modern gamer lately? Teach them than natural 20 is not an insta-win, the hard way!

Battletech Rescale (revised) had to correct the class of the ice ferret and also gave me a chance to do a "Ultra light mech" these are very close to official mech scale in the lore, the unfortunate thing is that a majority of official art and the videogames dont not follow it

RealMechIsLove (comms closed-working on waitlist)@realmechislove

I also did a rescale for gundam "Gundam Grunt Century" although that is more of a setting change that gives more variety of mech sizes and changes the setting into more of a ground warfare setting like battletetch, so Gundam basically becomes full "8th MS Team"

We have heard much from @GangloSaxonnne how much of a terror a BattleTech 'Mech would be in the Gundam universe. ...but what about Rynex? (Pay no attention to galaxy-killing Legendary Giant God Ideon standing over to the left.)

@ardan_blade @a_man_in_red With the development of I-fields and later Beam shields they had to increase the MW. Later in the timeline you start seeing heavy beam rifles. ZZ starts using a Mega Particle Cannon that hits the 50MW range.

@Gezkill @a_man_in_red Unless the destructive force does actually matter, any beam weapons would always work. This tells me there’s a value to putting more energy into their penetrating weapon.

@Gezkill @a_man_in_red In other words, neither is properly explained save for their one trait, penetration of matter to a certain measure. And Battletech has armor that expressly can stop that effect. Gundam does not.

@ardan_blade @a_man_in_red The neutral mega-particles interact by molecular disruption for clean deep penetration also the whole Black Lectroids Particle Beam was a plot device that was never explained or expanded on.

@Gezkill @a_man_in_red And what happens when something penetrates without interacting? Nothing. How does the weapon do damage if it never interacts with anything? You forget that the Black Lectroids had a weaponized Particle Beam.

@ardan_blade @a_man_in_red Gundam beam rifles use neutral mega-particles that don't, allowing better focus and penetration without that limitation.

@ardan_blade @a_man_in_red The Buckaroo Banzai 'particle beam' is about phasing through matter with an Oscillation Overthruster, not a destructive weapon—while Battletech PPCs fire charged particles that suffer magnetic repulsion.

@ardan_blade @a_man_in_red While a ppc has high penetration it still has to deal with magnetic repulsion. Beam rifles dont worry about that because the particles are effectively neutral. There entirely different principles, I suggest brushing up on your physics before we continue.

@Gezkill @a_man_in_red Incorrect, a PPC uses charged subatomic particles to go as far through the armor as possible, then impart energy into the struck surface to break it down from much deeper inside. You are describing the same principle. They have the same effect. The difference is imparted energy.

Gezkill@Gezkill·
@ardan_blade @a_man_in_red A PPC is a charged blasts that explodes on the surface, physics forces it to bloom and dump energy when it hits the armor. A beam rifle uses neutral particles that ignore atomic repulsion, piercing through the armor like a needle rather then melting on the surface.

@Gezkill @a_man_in_red Ultimately, you have given no physics based, explanation for how an NPB weapon would be any different than a PPC, which still has a much higher energy output than almost any Gundam weapon.

@ardan_blade @a_man_in_red stay close to each other. 3. They don't suffer bloom when they hit their target. All that energy is dispersed into a focal point. Battletech already has AP ammo for autocannons as well Tandem charges for SRMs. Beam Rifles are just those just highly more effective at penetration.

@ardan_blade @a_man_in_red penetration. NPBs style weapons have none of these as factors when being fired. 1. They don't lose as much energy when fired (At this point comparing a Beam Rifle to a medium laser is just wrong) 2. The particles are the complete opposite, instead of being dispersed they-
