A (super cute!!) pet photo from Catturd™ gets literally 50x the engagement of a link to incredibly important original reporting from the NYT on Iran. According to your own on-site numbers @nikitabier. Do you consider this to be a desirable outcome?

@AdrianDittmann even if it were liquid it’s still his to keep. insane position that someone else’s wealth is owed to a gov that spends it on negative roi programs, illegals and fraud. they are a fiscal black hole.

The problem is Bezos’ net worth is mostly illiquid Amazon stock and not cash in a bank. As I’ve posted previously, Bernie and Warren’s ridiculous proposal would require repeated large stock sales to pay for this unreasonable tax, which will cause harmful market volatility.
Elizabeth Warren@SenWarren

Jeff Bezos has $222 billion. If he paid my wealth tax this year, we could fund insulin in America for everyone who needs it plus free school lunch for every kid in Texas—and have plenty of money left over. And Bezos would still have $215 billion dollars to spare.

At some obvious level, it just......clearly is not true that all or most destruction of enemy infrastructure during hot wars constitutes "war crime." No war would ever be possible if "bridges, roads, cities, and the grid" - space earlier today - were off limits. It often seems like we have a secondary pseudo-elite - made up reporters, activists, "minority leaders" and such - which has been taught a few magic words and mostly engages in the parrot-like recitation of these as mantras. "Racism" "White supremacy" "Patriarchy" "War crime" "Genocide" "Settler colonialism" "Resistance" "Indigenous" "Cishet" Etc.

There's a ton of obvious mistakes that people have pointed out but if you want to see how off this is, just go to Obama's account and compare his numbers to this graph. 11 million engagements? When was that, today? Just look at his last few posts. No AOC, Elizabeth Warren, or Bernie Sanders but Rep AP Luna? Is that a joke? No Chris Murphy, Adam Schiff, any of the Democrats that post all day long? No Jon Favreau or any left leaning podcasts? Where's Greenwald? What is this graph even supposed to be? Is it just political accounts because if so, that's wrong. If it's not just political, it's missing a lot of non-political accounts. Not sure how someone who calls himself a data scientist can put out shoddy work like this.

These are the Twitter/X accounts with the most engagement so far in 2026. I suppose I had some intuition for how bad it was, but jeez, this is what you get when the ecosystem is broken.

@xwanyex population quality and alignment > quantity. everything else leads to degrowth as seen in canada with “skilled immigrants” and voting patterns of the new arrivals.

I certainly don’t identify as a degrowther, but I’d make the following points: * The connection between growth and immigration is more tenuous and less certain than many claim. * Many of our supposed gains just aren’t that important. It just literally doesn’t matter that you can watch any movie at any time. Medical advancements? Sure! But I don’t care that you can watch any movie at any time and, in fact, I think we were happier when we had to go the damn the video store and/or meet friends at the movies. This stuff just doesn’t matter (and may very well be negative). * People say that there is no tradeoff between the other things I say I care about and growth, but mass immigration will directly affect the things I care about, so it does matter precisely to the extent that you think immigration is required for growth. In summary: we’re not going to stop growing and innovating. Nobody knows what will happen with birth rates. Maximizing immigration is not necessary. There are too many unknowns, anyway (e.g. maybe institutions and culture under mass immigration erode to the point that we actually get less innovation).

We are seven months away from the most consequential midterm election in the history of the United States. Meanwhile, we are fighting a war. These are the structural conditions for a coup attempt in which a president tries to nullify elections and take permanent power as a dictator. If we see this, we can stop it, overcome the movement that brought us to this point, and make a turn towards something better. snyder.substack.com/p/the-next-cou…

This is a good metric of where people are politically. X is not "rigged," the Left wing since WW2 was always supported (and made practically compulsory) by absolute narrative control over media and academia. Now that both are in decline, normalcy is slowly returning.

I've basically stopped asking all AIs for advice. Partly, I think it's that AI has changed. They are all more circumspect, less direct than they could be, and also less insightful than they used to be. But I wonder if some of that is just that I've matured and grown, and need less advice, and learned that the AIs all have limitations. They can still do pretty well for dream interpretation, but I feel like I've almost internalized the AI's way of thinking, so instead I almost just imagine asking the AI for help, interpretation, or advice, and then my brain just sort of simulates what the AI would say and that's good enough. Anyone else feel this way?

@ydeigin i’m fine with all of these. most people follow the mainstream “ethical”consensus but personal opinions shift as soon as they are the ones who would benefit.

The idea of generating “brainless clones” for use as organ donors is getting a lot of flak recently but it made me wonder — we already accept organ donation from brain-dead individuals. So where exactly does the ethical red line fall when it comes to growing organs? Genuinely curious — where do people draw that line, ie which of these organ sources would you NOT be ok with? 1️⃣ 3D-printing organs from your own cells (iPSCs) 2️⃣ Growing your organs inside a xeno pig 3️⃣ A headless clone of you (never develops a head) 4️⃣ A clone body with a skull but no face or brain 5️⃣ A clone body with a head and face but no brain 6️⃣ I am ok with all of the above
