Today the U.S. lost moral authority in the world. Trump’s unprovoked attack on a neighbor is against the way of life that the Greatest generation fought and died for, one where we respect international borders and allow nations to determine their own leaders. This is presidential overreach, pure and simple. The Constitution is clear: Congress – not the president – has the power to authorize war. This pursuit of military intervention and regime change inside another country without the consent of Congress is another abuse of power by Trump and his enablers. Congress’ feckless continued inaction shows it has lost its ability to govern in matters of war and peace. Attacking neighbors is what we condemned Putin for doing in Ukraine. Now, Trump is attacking a sovereign nation. We may not like its leader, but we do not attack sovereign nations and take over other countries to “run” them, not without an imminent threat to our nation and not without the backing of the American people through the approval of our representatives in Congress. apnews.com/live/trump-us-…

The White House is confirming U.S. military operations in Venezuela tonight. Let us be clear: these strikes are illegal. The President does not have the authority to declare war or undertake large-scale military operations without Congress. Congress must act to rein him in. Immediately.
