I see a huge % of the fanbase have given up on Gyok. I think it’s harsh on the lad. We were desperate for a Striker, there were very few on the market, the Club pulled the trigger and chose him. He’s an ‘old school’ 9. He’s powerful and he is quick, and if he’s in the final third facing the goal he’ll be selfish and shoot to score. Just what we needed right? We’ve basically played with a false 9 for 2/3 seasons. We need to adapt a bit to play to his strengths. Most of the teams that we play use a low block so there is little or no space for him to work most of the time so far. We also play with inverted wingers, and a controlled build up. For a 9 it’s nearly impossible to know when to make that run across your defender when you have wingers that cut in and out when trying to shake off defenders. I think because of all the above, he’s struggling with confidence. It’s a pressure situation, big fee, expected goals, new league with faster, fitter and stronger defenders, different from what he’s used to and lack of service. I’m sure when Kai comes back we can sit Big Vic down, let him catch his breath, get used on rotation and hopefully the team finds a way over time to work together and get the best out of him. Maybe I’m just hoping, but i do believe Big Vic can score goals for us, important goals, goals that we don’t expect him to score. In the mean time I’m not giving him a hard ride because it’s not entirely his fault.

@hente_afsc Thanks for remembering him. Like Hughie Gallacher, also from Bellshill, one of the legendary Wembley Wizards. Met an old fella who often saw James at Kings Cross the night before a game with a half bottle of whiskey in his jacket pocket. The next day he’d play a blinder!

7/7 During the WW2 he served as a Gunner in the Royal Artillery and after the war returned to #Arsenal to do coaching with the juniors. Alex James sadly passed away very much too early in 1953 from cancer aged only 51, but remains immortal amongst The #Arsenal supporters.

1/7 OTD 1929 #Arsenal debut for one of the best ever players to have represented The Gunners, a Scottish magician forward, the legendary Alex James. Manager Herbert Chapman and the club needed to be clever to get the 27yo star from Preston NE with transfer fee not the problem.

We currently have ten crews - around 50 firefighters and other personnel - tackling a fire involving an industrial unit in #Meriden. We were called just after 4.05pm to a landfill site off Cornets End Lane. There are no reports of anyone being hurt.
