I have multiple original gameboys that now have modern IPS displays because I actually use them, and the damn near 40 year old original lcds just naturally deteriorated beyond usability. I could have just encased them in amber at that point but I chose to give them a second life.

I've seen this sentiment going around with a lot of physical mods to old console and handheld hardware and I think there is definitely a divide forming between people who actually want to use their old shit and people who want to curate a personal museum.

Am I the only one who hates console mods that remove the disc drive? I see these for both the PS1 and Dreamcast a lot. Like... Why would you remove the ability to ever actually buy and play games in their native format on the original hardware? Surely there's other ways to play your collection of ISOs on the hardware...
