@mobius_b Ultimately they would probably feel disincentivized to make a steel legion in their modern game format because they look so similar to Krieg that if painted the same colour they would be hard to differentiate yet they would have different core abilities like cadian and catachan

@mobius_b These are big details for someone on twitter but not for a giant company that sells miniatures GW has no incentive to spend resources on a unit that’s 90% similar to something they already sell meanwhile also having a near exact same yet seperate gameplay presence

Krieg and steel arent the same, small details make very large differences between the guard regiments based on their lore and have appealed to. Large amount of fans, a real 40k fan would know this, And stating that people can kitbash or paint them differently is just another excuse for GW laziness and why they would fail as a company to expand and sell their universe, For GW's main revenue is based on service that entice people into the franchise and sell the new plastic minis, (steel legion can and should be one of them,) If they cant provide the product or service, the customers wont see the benefit from buying GW products and slowly die as a company. For if GW doenst want to serve the customers/fans than the customers/fans will serve them selfs, and gw will be left with nothing from losing customers and fans to cheaper alternative.

@Rares_Gabi It’s not logistically realistic to expect so many variations of the exact same unit just for niche buyers especially so many in such a small amount of time since GW started their scale update

Kitbashing shouldn’t be the mandatory path for top-tier regiments just because that’s how it’s always been. More official ranges mean more options for converters, not fewer. GW has the resources and the sales data — time to stop settling for “good enough” when they can deliver “great.” I’m fully aware the Guard already has plastic ranges for Cadians, Catachans, and now Krieg, and that kitbashing has been the only realistic way to represent 99 % of regiments for years. I’m not pretending otherwise. But “it’s always been like this” isn’t an argument for why it should stay that way forever. GW dropped a full, gorgeous plastic Death Korps range in 2025 — unique poses, Death Riders, Engineers, Lord Marshal, the whole lot — for what used to be a Forge World niche regiment. They proved they can make bank on dedicated subfaction kits when demand exists. The Steel Legion is one of the biggest fan-favourite regiments with iconic Third War for Armageddon lore and art. Telling people to “just kitbash or proxy” ignores how real dedicated models would give everyone more bits, more variety, and better ways to represent distinct aesthetics and playstyles.

Building on my earlier reply: I love kitbashing—it's creative fun—but it shouldn't be required for a regiment with its own distinct lore, aesthetic, and playstyle. Perhaps the biggest example of how 40k is now just a plot with a neat setting is how boiled down all of this is, like you had dozens of various regiments in the Second War for Armageddon all with unique aesthetics and now we’re just stuck with Cadians and Krieg.
