Today, the GiveDirectly Rwanda team visited @NyanzaMemorial to commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. During the visit, staff reflected on the unimaginable atrocities committed during the genocide and learned about the significance of this memorial site, which is the final resting place of approximately 105,000 victims. We shall continue to honor them through relentless work.

Fabrice from @MusanzeDistrict once struggled to provide for his two children through small farming and a modest mobile money business. Today, his business is growing, his farm has new seeds and fertilizer, and he is building a more stable future for his family. #HabwaWigire #UmuturageKuIsonga

Payday looks like this 💸 Excitement, relief, and plans already in motion. From investing in small businesses to paying school fees and securing food for their families, direct cash makes this possible. When people have the resources, they know exactly what to do. #CashTransfers #Dignity #EconomicInclusion

@GiveDirectly is the one charity i've consistently given to since i started earning money. this article is great, written by GD's co-founder, and gets to the heart of why i love GD - they give agency to people who don't start with a lot, and prove it works with RCTs.

An insane bit in this piece on giving cash to poor people: Harvard's IRB nearly blocked a randomized trial because it "worried that giving people money might harm them"! indevelopmentmag.com/money-for-noth…

Francine & Naphtar from @NyanzaDistrict once lived on almost nothing, running a small bar with just a few crates. Today, they’ve expanded their business, invested in farming and livestock, and are building a more stable future while supporting their children’s education and dreaming even bigger. #HabwaWigire #UmuturageKuIsonga

Prosper from @NyanzaDistrict struggled to grow his work due to limited tools and long distances to access essential services, relying on small, inconsistent earnings. Today, he runs a thriving tailoring business with his own embroidery and button machines, sells fabrics, raises goats, and is building a more stable and growing future for his family. #HabwaWigire #UmuturageKuIsonga

Work looks different for everyone. For some, it’s farming the land. For others, it’s running a small business or investing in their children’s education. This Labor Day, we’re celebrating the many ways families across Rwanda are working to build better futures, on their own terms. Cash gives people the freedom to choose what that work looks like. #LaborDay #Rwanda #HabwaWigire

Rose and Marcelin from @NyanzaDistrict struggled to provide for their family of six without land or stable income, relying on casual work that barely covered food, school fees, and rented farmland. Today, they run a small shop, own a calf, have cleared their debt, and can support their children’s education while building a more stable future for their family. #HabwaWigire #UmuturageKuIsonga

Habyarimana from @MusanzeDistrict relied on small earnings from casual farm jobs and a modest harvest, with big dreams but limited means to achieve them. Today, with improved farming, a cow supporting his land, and renovations underway at home, he is growing more, planning ahead, and building a future he once only imagined. #HabwaWigire #UmuturageKuIsonga
