A one-month-old girl in The Gambia has died after being subjected to FGM. This is not culture or tradition — it is violence and a grave violation of human rights. FGM kills an estimated 44,320 girls and young women every year — one every 12 minutes. In The Gambia, prevalence remains at 75–76%, with infants increasingly targeted to evade detection. We demand justice for this child, full enforcement of the FGM ban, and global accountability for states failing to protect girls. Silence makes more deaths inevitable.
