@ExtremeCen80240 @NewsInContext1 1) Pickering Airport isn't happening. The govt is disposing of the land. 2) long-distance flights from YYZ depend on short flights to feed them 3) there is land available to the north for a new runway.

@GlobalTom @NewsInContext1 YYZ cannot be expanded. Insufficient room for more all important E - W parallel runways. Also there would be very few connecting flights between the new north Pickering Int’l Airport and YYZ or YTZ. Similar to Midway and O’Hare in Chicago or LAX, Long Beach, Burbank and others.

Is Pearson's congestion/performance that abysmal that we NEED to uplift YTZ to the tune of $1 billion + displacement of people and waterfront?

And now, a century later, towns have zoned for small stations. Remove them from the market and people will have to flood the large stations. Those small plots of land are contaminated, so before redeveloping them, remediation is required. So the towns lose that revenue and have a blighted plot of land.

Today, we are announcing plans to lift the statewide ban on self-service gas stations in New Jersey. We encourage New Jerseyans to familiarize themselves with gas pumps as this change is in effect immediately, April 1, 2026.

@ExtremeCen80240 @NewsInContext1 And everyone hates having multiple airports, connecting travellers doubly so. The other option is to expand YYZ. You know, the existing major airport that isn't in a residential area. Heathrow did in far more constrained circumstances!

@GlobalTom @NewsInContext1 Zero duplication. Large megalopolis’s have two or more big airports all over N.A. It’s either build the new airport or expand YTZ. Your choice.

Allowing self service would render thousands of small plots of land across NJ as unusable superfund sites. NJ is unique in that we were among the first to have gas stations, and they were all small shops in towns across the state on small plots of land. They cannot compete with self-service stations. They will go under. We will wait in long lines for gas until all 500+ municipalities change their zoning laws and allow thousands of large gas stations to be built in places we won’t be happy to see.

@GlobalTom @NewsInContext1 False. Justin Trudeau stopped it. Just like Carney reversed much of Trudeau’s foolish policies, he can reverse this too. Until the land is built on, it’s a possibility. The GTA needs an east side Int’l Airport with 3 parallel runways. It already has pop of 1.7 mil & growing.

@ExtremeCen80240 @ColinDMello Fair enough - but remember most people don't use Uber for trips to the airport. We don't need to waste taxpayer money trying to duplicate an existing international airport.

@GlobalTom @ColinDMello No. Quick Uber directly from our tower in the Financial District to Billy Bishop is MUCH faster than going first to Union Station, then walking all the long way up the ramp to the UPX stop and then going to Pearson.

NEW: Premier Doug Ford lets his plans for the Toronto Island airport slip: "We're also expanding the airport," Ford says. "The federal government is endorsing the plan. We're going to be taking a load off Pearson." #onpoli

@mike_vanveen @ColinDMello To be clear: the TPA looks after the Island Airport; the board of TPA is one-third City, Province, Federal govt... but Ford wants to take the City's seats.

@NewsInContext1 @ExtremeCen80240 Pickering airport is dead. It's not happening. The federal government is disposing of the land. Pearson can handle more passengers. We don't need to waste money on duplicate airports.

@ExtremeCen80240 @NewsInContext1 Pearson doesn't need more runways. The airlines need to operate larger planes - which they will do if demand increases. Pearson Airport is saying they can handle more passengers - why don't you believe them??

@GlobalTom @NewsInContext1 @foolishyangban Pearson is limited by only 3 parallel E-W runways. No room to expand or add more. Hemmed in. We definitely need more E-W runways. Chicago has 2 big airports & 8 parallel runways. GTA pop. 7.4 mil doubling to 15 mil in 2y years. New GTA Airport in north Picketing or YTZ Jets

@ExtremeCen80240 @NewsInContext1 Average plane size at Pearson is small - can accommodate waaaay more passengers if that increases to industry averages. They also have less flights than some other twin-airport runways Pickering airport isn't happening. It's been cancelled. They are disposing of the land.

@GlobalTom @NewsInContext1 @foolishyangban Edit: 25 years. GTA predicted to double in 25 years to 15 million. Every large metropolis has multiple airports. YYZ will renovate terminals but can’t add more flights. Options: Jets & expand YTZ Build 2nd large GTA Int’l Airport for east side growth.

@ExtremeCen80240 @NewsInContext1 @foolishyangban We don't need another big airport in the GTA. Pearson has ample capacity - many twin-runway airports have more flights and more passengers. Pearson blatantly doesn't have the same infrastructure airport as when Toronto had 2m people!

@GlobalTom @NewsInContext1 @foolishyangban Correct. But so many NIMBY’s like him think that we can keep the same small airport infrastructure built when Toronto had a pop of 2 million and there was no such thing as the GTA. We need our new big 2nd GTA Int’l Airport in north Pickering. NIMBY’s are unhappy people.
